Top Summer Fashion Mistakes to Avoid

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

As the weather gets warmer, the layers shed and the Summer outfits come out to play. What was once a campus flocking with yoga pants is now a parade for high-waisted shorts. Sometimes, though, we soak up too much sun and get a little carried away with our clothing options. While I’m all for creativity, here are just a few Summer fashion mistakes you may want to avoid.

The too high high-waisted shorts:

I must admit that I have personally struggled with high-waisted shorts looking like an adult-size diaper at times. While this classic style can certainly be pulled off with finesse, it is safe to say that there is a significant line that should not be crossed. When you can feel the brisk wind against your bum cheeks as you walk down the street, for example, then perhaps you have gone too far.

Your “headlights” are on:

We’ve all been there. You just bought an adorable shirt, but your bra ruins the style or won’t fit underneath the new garment. Unless you are blessed with invisible ta-tas or feel completely confident going braless, I suggest investing in some basic adhesive covers. They will save you from staring eyes and annoying bra adjustments.

Maximized:

Is your favorite maxi dress or skirt just a tad too long? If you notice a collection of branches, dirt and who knows what else lining the bottom of it, then your answer is yes. While getting it tailored would be ideal, we don’t all have the time or money for that. Some simple solutions include: a) Pulling your skirt up higher (Who would’ve thought, huh?), or b) Rolling the edges inward and securing them with double-sided tape. Voilà!
