Netflix Recommendations to Get You Through the Rest of Winter Term

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Just a few recommendations to get you through the last stretch of winter term!

HOMECOMING: A Film by Beyoncé

I know all of you have watched this amazing documentary a thousand times by now—or at least you should have. But trust that Beyoncé can always make your day better. Throw this on with your group of girlfriends and watch the Queen do what she does best.

The Vampire Diaries

If you already haven’t seen The Vampire Diaries then I don’t know what you’ve been watching. This show has amazing character development and an endlessly gripping plot; along with some of the most beautiful actors in the industry. Be prepared because if you start this show you’ll become hooked and it will take you on multiple emotional rollercoasters.

Someone Great

This movie shows the emotional journey of a couple after a breakup. If you’ve ever gone through a breakup it’s super relatable. It emphasizes the importance of friends and reminds you that you don’t need a significant other to be happy. I love this movie because it is a great reminder that everyone has the ability to be successful and independent.

Unbelievable

This gut-wrenching show—based on a true story—takes you on the devastating and extremely frustrating whirlwind of a young girl’s sexual assault case. It depicts the emotional trauma that goes on after sexual assault occurs, and highlights the systematic injustice that drives many victims away from coming forward. Two amazing female detectives take on the case in order to bring peace to all the girls that had been attacked as well as put a stop to the perpetrator. Trigger warning: this show is extremely graphic and features scenes of rape and sexual assault.

Queer Eye

Leave it to the Fab Five to brighten up your winter term! The positivity, compassion, and acceptance that radiates off the fiercest group on Netflix will make you laugh and cry simultaneously. So when the lows of winter term have you down, throw on Queer Eye to brighten your day.

The Good Place

The Good Place is a hilarious sitcom with an iconic cast. Members like Kristen Bell, Jameela Jamil, Ted Danson, and many more, go on a journey about a very creative take of life after death. This show features hilarious characters and with plot twists you’ll never see coming. It’s always a good option to throw on in the background while doing finals work.

Dynasty

After finishing Victorious—when Netflix added it to their site in November—I needed more Liz Gillies (the actress that portrays Jade West). This show is about the dramatic and exciting lives of an extremely wealthy family in Atlanta, Georgia. Liz Gillies is the lead character, who is extremely clever and manipulative. She also has the chicest style. With characters highly influenced by more money than imaginable; the plot takes goes to crazy lengths in the most intriguing way possible.

Stranger Things

If you haven’t already binged your way through the Stranger Things series, then start right now. Not only are the characters entertaining, but the 1980s setting and compelling storyline make the entire series very captivating. With world-famous actors like Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown, the production of the whole series is incredible.

Gossip Girl

Rewatching Gossip Girl is always a good idea. This Netflix classic is never a bad choice. The endlessly entertaining and chaotic lives of the notorious teens of the Upper East Side will make binging all six seasons of the show so easy.
