If you’re a horror fanatic like me, you’re always looking for a new movie or show to spook you out. With Halloween coming up, the same children’s movies can get boring. I’ve done the dirty work and picked out some of my favorite horror movies and shows available on Netflix.

It Follows

A film about a sexually transmitted demon doesn’t sound that scary, but trust me, this movie will send a chill up your spine. After a one night stand, teenager Jay finds out she now holds the burden of a demon that was sexually transmitted to her. She is the only one who can see the demon and she can only get rid of it by passing it on to someone else. You will be on the edge of your seat as you see the horrifying experiences Jay goes through trying to fight the curse.

The Conjuring

The Conjuring is possibly one of the best horror film franchise of the 2010s. With five movies already in the franchise, it’s no wonder The Conjuring is such a successful hit. Set in the 1970s, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren are sent to investigate a haunting affecting the Perron family. Based on a true story, the spooky antics and terrifying depictions will be sure to make you scream.

V/H/S 2

Nothing is scarier than point of view horror shots. As a couple break into a house to find a missing student, they find mysterious VHS tapes and decide to watch them. Each tape’s contents become odder by the minute, as strange things happen in real time. Jump scares galore, the home videos will have you covering your eyes.

Seven

Starring Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt, Seven (stylized “Se7en”) is a psychological thriller that tells a story of two detectives on the hunt for a serial killer whose murders replicate the seven deadly sins. The murders are severely gruesome and will leave you in shock. The entire movie will have you guessing and thinking with every part of your brain as the mystery is solved.

The Haunting of Hill House

This new horror show on Netflix is a reimagining of the book by Shirley Jackson. As a family must revisit the haunted home they lived in, they must also confront their past. With a star-studded cast and a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, there’s no reason you shouldn’t watch this masterpiece.

American Horror Story

With the show on its eighth season, American Horror Story reigns as TV’s best horror show. This anthology depicts stories from a family moving into a haunted home, a mental asylum plagued by supernatural forces, to a freakshow filled with mysteries and murder. Ryan Murphy’s award winning show has seven seasons on Netflix currently, Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, My Roanoke Nightmare, and Cult, in their respective order. Personally, the first three seasons are my favorite, but once you start watching, you cannot stop. You’ll have a hard time sleeping at night, as Ryan Murphy does an amazing job of scaring his viewers.

Scream the TV Series

The Ghostface killer is back and better than ever. This modern remake of the Scream saga is lowkey one of MTV’s gems. Set in the small town of Lakewood, a group of teenagers are targeted by a serial killer with a familiar past. With each murder, you’ll be guessing who the Ghostface killer truly is.

Netflix has a wide variety of horror films and shows, but hopefully, this list of my favorites helped you find some good ones!
