This past weekend was emotional. As someone who is from Southern California, I grew up watching Laker games with my dad. I am sending prayers to every person that was involved in the plane crash this weekend. I wish for peace and strength to all the families mourning the loss of loved ones. With so many emotions, there was still the 61st annual Grammys Sunday night. It was such an emotional day leading up to it, but the show being in the Staples Center, you could feel all the raw and real emotions even through the television screen. I will be breaking down all things Grammys and things that stood out to me.

Fashion: During award season, fashion is one of the most discussed topics. I listen to a podcast called “Brad Behavior,” who is a celebrity stylist, and I have loved his recent episodes because they have all been about award season and discussing the outfits that celebrities have been wearing on the red carpet. For this show, in particular, I was not a fan of what most celebrities chose to wear. I feel like they did not wear what looked best for their bodies.

There are a few outfits that were my favorite of the night:

  • Chrissy Teigen in Yanina Couture: Many people had mixed feelings about the dress, but I loved the color on her skin, and I think it fit her body very well and looked great on her. I also love that on twitter; she said that she picked a dress and can not wait for people to hate on it.

  • Tyler the Creator: What a funny guy. I love his wit and humor. The fact that she showed up on the red carpet looking like a bell-hop I just thought was so fun and fit his personality

  • Lizzo in Versace: This look is something that I did not expect from Lizzo. Usually, on the red carpet, she wears these extravagant, attention-drawing outfits. In this look, though, I thought she looked so elegant and classy. I loved the white on her, and she just looked beautiful

  • Finneas in Gucci: I thought he looked great. I loved the flowers on the suit, and I just loved the simplicity yet elegance of his outfit.

These next few people were my least favorite Grammy outfits

  • Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Russo: I want to know who told her to wear that. I have never been so disappointed in a costume for so long. The dress was not faltering on her body at all and made her look wider than she is. Also, who told her to leave the belly button piercing, this is the GRAMMYS, not the VMAs.

  • Ariana Grande in Giambattista Valli: I know that Ariana Grande is really into doing everything to the extreme, and this outfit was evidence of that. I personally just thought it was too much and was not in love with the color on her skin tone. I think there were so many things that she could have worn that would have been way more flattering on her body.

  • Dua Lippa: Her outfit just looked like something that I have in my closet. Now I think Dua is gorgeous, and I understand simple, but I honestly think I own the skirt and shirt she wore.

The performances: At the Grammys, there is bound to be a lot of incredible musical talent. I was in awe of the artistic talent. Some that stood out to me was Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas. She has such an incredible voice, and I love that she just kept it simple. I also loved Camilla Cabeo’s performance. I love that song, “First Man,” and watching her performance just made me want to call my dad and tell him how much I loved him. One performance that I was not a fan of, not to keep bringing up the same person, was Ariana Grande. There just was nothing exciting about her performance at all. After last year refusing to go to the Grammys, I thought this year she would be a little more polished. Honestly, it just seemed like it was not practiced enough.

Alicia Keys: I love her, and I think because of the events that happened that day, she was the perfect host for the show because she could handle the situation in a professional way. I loved her tribute to Kobe and his family. I loved all of her outfit changes, she dressed right for her body. I love her energy, she is a very peaceful person, and after watching her, I wanted her to help me when I am stressed and give me meditation advice. There were times that she dragged things on longer than they needed to be dragged on. There were some points where I was like, girl, get to the point. Other than that, I think she did a fabulous job.

Lastly, something that I took away from the Grammys was, how talented Billie Eilish brother Finneas is. Before the show, I knew that she had a brother that produce her music in their bedroom of their childhood home. After the show where he won five Grammys, I needed to learn more about him. So as millennials do, I followed/stalked him on Instagram. In the next few days, I spent listening to his EP, which is fantastic! If you haven’t listened to it, its called “Blood Harmony,” it is so so good. I went into a deep dive, I watched every and any interview I could find. I started following his girlfriend and watched all her vlogs of them together. I can honestly say that I am a big fan and hope nothing but success for him. He is so normal, which is so refreshing to see.

Those I would say are the things that stood out to me the most from the Grammys. I love the Grammys the best because music is so universal. Of course, I did not agree with all the recording Academy’s choices of winners but, whoever does. As I get older, I feel as though I understand why they choose the winners that they do. So until next year, happy almost end of award season.
