If Freshman Year Wasn’t All You’d Hoped

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Going into college, you feel so much pressure to have the perfect first year like it seems everyone else has had on social media. A lot of people think they need to have their whole life figured out by the end of freshman year or that they need to have the best time ever. This isn’t true!

Because of some expectations that I had previously to college, my freshman year was certainly not what I thought it would be. I expected to make tons of new friends instantaneously, get involved with a bunch of student groups, and have an easy time in my classes. Overall, I think I expected to be a whole new person upon arrival.

Although I did have a really good freshman year, I do have some regrets and things I wish I would have done sooner. This year; however, I have learned all the things I want to do differently next year. If freshman year is anything: it is a learning experience. I’ve learned to no longer have expectations, what I should do differently next year, and to not overthink it.

Freshman year is not going to be perfect for anyone. It’s best to just take what you’ve learned this year and make the most of the next 3!
