As I enter my junior year of college. I find myself attending so many twenty-first birthday parties. In the past week, I was invited to three and had to plan one for my roommate. For me though, I almost have a whole other year until I turn twenty-one, October can you get here faster. I feel as though when I turn twenty-one I will be a professional at planning the best twenty-first birthday party. Celebrating your twenty-first in Eugene is something very special. There is something about the people and the atmosphere in Eugene is very special. Here in Eugene most students before they go to a bar. It is a small celebration, with all their close friends. At this celebration, there is a scrapbook made with pictures and messages. Here is my list of things that I think make a perfect twenty-first birthday party.

  1. Have a set budget. Birthday Parties can get expensive, and going in without a limit it can add up. I know splitting a party between roommates can even the cost, but if there is not a limit it will add up.

  2. Find a space that is open. There are going to be people going in and out of your house, it is important to make sure that you have that open space. I know for the celebration that we hosted we had to move our couch out of our apartment to make space which is not ideal. Though it was the perfect amount of space for the people that came. It was a hassle to move. So make sure that you have a nice open space or ask a friend if you can borrow their space.

  3. Keep the decorations simple and cheap. Though this is a special night, less is more. There are going to be a lot of people going in and out of your apartment, some might not even notice the decor. Make sure you coordinate with the birthday girl what she wants. Most people have one wall of decorations such as streamers and a 21 in large balloons. There are many party packs on amazon that include all the decorations in one back for only 20 dollars, (a STEAL).

  4. Work on the scrapbook before the day of. I know this is totally just a Eugene Oregon thing where a scrapbook is made, but it is something fun that the birthday girl can keep forever. What it is, is an 8×10 scrapbook where one page is a page of photos, messages. The other side is a page for them to fill out at the bars. The page has a list of things for them to fill out the date (D), time (T), place (P), bar (B) and signature from the bartender (X). Make sure you coordinate with the birthday girl who she wants to make a scrapbook page for her and expect at least three of those people will either be too busy to make one or will forget. Coordinate a day that you want everyone to turn in their pages so you can put the whole scrapbook together.

  5. Figure out if you want food or drinks at the party. Food and drinks are not necessary what so ever but it is nice for guests to have a snack and a drink.

  6. Give yourself about two hours to clean up and set up. The last thing you are going to want is to be rushing and the birthday girl is going to need some time to get ready so make sure that you start setting up at least two hours before the party maybe even sooner.

  7. Have fun! Parties can be stressful but remember that this is supposed to be a fun activity for people including you.
