How to Keep Up With Class Assignments

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

As we get further into midterm week, the workload can keep building up and it can become stressful juggling assignments, midterms, and projects. Here are some tips to stay motivated and stay on top of your assignments:

1. Make a list

This is pretty simple, but it’s helpful to write down tasks that need to get done. Nothing is more satisfying than checking off a task and feeling accomplished. I find it helpful to prioritize and write down tasks that need to get done daily so I remember.

2. Plan ahead

Although this is a pretty general tip, it helps to schedule time for certain assignments or tasks. Work around your busy schedule to get assignments done ahead of time so that it doesn’t interfere with the time you need to work on a project or other work.

3. Reward yourself

I find that treating myself after getting certain tasks done helps me stay motivated to get things done. Do small rewards like getting Starbucks after studying for a few hours or watching an episode of your favorite Tv show after completing an assignment. It helps motivate you to get work done if you have something positive to look forward to after.

4. Play music

Listening to music while studying or doing an assignment helps me stay focused and positive towards getting an assignment. I like to listen to Lo-fi beats or jazz music as a background and it relieves stress as I complete assignments. Having music in the background is always therapeutic if you are feeling stressed in the middle of assignment or it can uplift your mood.

5. Set boundaries

We can all get pretty attached to our phones and find it as a way to avoid the stress of assignments, but it can be time consuming. Setting a limit on your phone in between completing school assignments will help you avoid going down a rabbit hole. It is important to always prioritize school first.

6. Find a Study Spot

Going to campus or a coffee shop helps me stay focused when I need to get work done. I think that being surrounded by your peers who are on task kind of pushes you to do the same. It can also be helpful to change your study space if you need a change of scenery and can help with creative flow or productivity.

7. Have a Study Buddy or Group

I think that having a friend or a group of people that helps motivate each other to get work done, creates a positive environment. It is especially beneficial if you have a friend in the same class for preparing for exams or working on a project.
