Give Yourself the Gift of Self-Love this V-day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

We often view Valentine’s Day as either a super fun day where we get to give all our love to a significant other, or a day where we hate on the entire concept of love with our girlfriends. This year I’m challenging all you gals to make your Valentine’s Day about giving love to yourself!

I’m not saying take the entire day for a self-centered celebration of you, but maybe give yourself some time to reflect on your accomplishments and truly appreciate them. Whether you’re swamped with classes and school work or you’re the president of 10 clubs, we work very hard. Self-love is something that takes time to achieve, but devoting a day to appreciating yourself is not something to pass up on.

I propose that you make this Valentine’s Day about giving yourself some much needed love: To yourself, from yourself! In this article I have a few suggestions that will hopefully inspire you to take the time for some self-lovin’ on February 14th!

Join a group fitness class

If you’re not usually an active person, but always feel great after a workout, take the time on Valentine’s Day to treat yourself to a group fitness class you’ve been wanting to try. You can also carve out some time for that hike you’ve been dying to explore. I find that moving my body and taking care of my health by exercising has made me more confident and proud of myself.

Bake a cake or pull out the cook book

When the hectic-ness of your schedule doesn’t allow you to de-stress with baking or cooking a full meal, make Valentine’s night the day you treat yourself. It feels so good to have a home cooked meal that you cooked. If you truly can’t cook, try making some soup and feel super accomplished that you heated it up (on your stove that never gets used)!

Splurge a little

Spend some money on your favorite fancy drink. Get that double whip caramel mocha swirl at your go-to coffee shop–that you usually avoid because of the amount of sugar, calories or cost. You deserve it, it’s your self-love day!

My list of suggestions could go on and on, but only you know how to love yourself. So get thinking and find that special activity, meal, or whatever, that will make your V-day special! Give yourself a Valentine’s Day that’s all about you and the love and appreciation you have for yourself.

XOXO
