Campus Cutie: HannahBeth Gilbert

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Year: Freshman

Major: Pre-Education

From: West Linn, OR (But a Texan at heart)

HCO: Why did you pick the University of Oregon?

I like the distance from my town because it’s far enough away. It’s not too far that I can’t go home, but I feel like I’m on my own. I have an older brother that goes here that’s a junior, Harrison, and it’s really been fun to go to the same college as him. I get to see him a bunch so that’s fun. And I’m a pre-education major as of right now and there’s a great education program here. Everything just kind of fit; I never considered another school.

HCO: Why education?

I love kids and I just feel totally energized by them. Whenever I walk away from any type of experience like camp counseling or teacher aiding, I’m just totally in my element and I feel like that’s how your job should be.

HCO: Are you involved in anything else at UO?

Yea, I’m in a University Fellowship college group, UFC The Good Fight. I’m on the leadership team with them and am just a part of the ministry and it’s every Tuesday. It’s just a place for fellowship and biblical teaching. It’s been nice to get plugged in outside of my own Church back at home.

HCO: Alright, so let’s talk about boys. What is the most attractive thing about a guy?

If I’m going to take this deep, the most attractive thing to me is a guy’s faith, but just looking at someone, I think I’m really attracted to eyes. I really like eyes and voices. That’s kind of creepy, but I just like a strong guy voice.

HCO: What is your biggest turn-off, then?

I think it would be their attitude. If they’re someone who can’t engage with people around them and can only be with their friends and is like, not very confident… A lack of confidence is really gross to me.

HCO: Have you ever had any crazy pick-up lines?

Once in 7th grade, I had this stalker for Valentine’s Day. He found a way into my locker and put a drawing of a teddy bear in a robber outfit with a little bag with a heart. He was like, “here’s this teddy bear to steal your heart like you stole mine,” and I didn’t know who it was or how he got into my locker! I had a boyfriend at the time so it was really awkward.

HCO: What is your ideal date?

I think this a pretty common answer, but on an ideal date for me, I don’t really care what we’re doing, but instead that I really like the person and I’m really actually interested in them. A date where there’s no high expectations or pressure, but it’s just like you can actually get to know the person.

HCO: Do you have a celebrity crush?

I wish I was married to Matt Damon. I think he’s fantastic. He’s super attractive and he’s a dad, so there’s that.

HCO: Alright, last one. Do you have a life motto?

A phrase that I like to live by, that’s from my new church here, is “love God, love your neighbor, make Disciples.” So that’s kind of how I view my life. It’s not really a motto, but it’s a little mantra.
