Name: Mckenzie Bluhm

Year: Sophomore

Major: Business

Hometown: Beaverton, OR

This born and raised Oregonian’s claim to fame is being a dancer on the UO Jam Squad! Dancing practically since birth, she enjoys every aspect of performing. From National Dance Championships to the Gymnastics Junior Olymics, Mckenzie has seen many stages – but as a student, you’re more likely to find her in the Lillis Cafe or the Law School Library. Meet Mckenzie!

HCO: What made you want to join Jam Squad?

I’ve been dancing my whole life, since I was three. I took a break last year and really missed dancing and performing, so a friend and I decided to audition this year and I’ve really like so far!

HCO: Tell me about your upcoming performances:

We perform at various basketball games and Greek events throughout the year, but our big performance is coming up on January 15th at the Blazer game vs. Cavaliers. It should be a really awesome experience and I’m so excited to dance at the same venue I used to in high school!

HCO: What’s you favorite style of dance?

I think I’d have to say hip-hop because that’s what I’ve mainly been involved with since high school and I find it the most fun. I also did gymnastics when I was younger until high school, but it ultimately became too much of a time commitment. It was fun as a kid though, I even made it to the Junior Olympics in fourth grade!

HCO: What’s your favorite dance memory?

I think it would have to be when my high school dance team went to Nationals in Orlando my senior year. It was crazy to be competing on a stage I had only seen on the internet and TV. Plus, we got to go to Disney World, which was sweet.

HCO: Besides Jam Squad, what else are you involve with on campus?

I’m really involved with my sorority, Kappa Delta. I work to plan events which is really fun and I’m also a Daggermen Chair where I help with the interviewing and selection of our current Daggermen. Besides that, school keeps me pretty busy!

HCO: What made you want to come to UO

I knew I wanted to stay in state and I knew I was interested in law and business, so it was pretty much a no brainer for me. I wish I had some elaborate story that it came to be in a dream or something, but in reality I just knew since I was pretty young.

HCO: So you plan on going to Law School? What are you goals with that?

In all honesty, I want to be in the FBI. What really got me turned on to the idea was a Law and CSI Convention in Washington D.C I got to go to a few years ago. I got to meet tons of people that work in different branches of national security. My plan is get into law school and get a killer internship and then eventually work for the FBI.

HCO: Finish this sentence: “In another life I was…”:

I was definitely, definitely a rapper.

HCO: What is something you’re looking forward to this year?

I’ll be honest, I’m really just looking forward to next summer… I love school and all , but nothing compares to summer break in the Cabo sun.
