Winter is Coming: 5 Things to Look Forward to This Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OR State chapter.

As days get longer and colder and finals start creeping closer, it’s hard to feel optimistic about the oncoming winter season. However, there are so many things to look forward to even if the sunshine is long gone!

1. Seasonal Drinks at Starbucks

Out with the pumpkin spice lattes; ‘tis the season for Eggnog Lattes and Peppermint Hot Chocolates. Money may not buy happiness, but it can buy you Starbucks which at times is close enough. Hot cocoa is a winter classic and it’s always fun to see what new twist Starbucks (or Dutch Bros.) will put on it. I think it’s safe to say all these warm winter treats certainly make up for the dropping temperatures.

2. Winter Break

After the nausea-inducing suffering known as finals week occurs, there comes a beacon of hope called winter break.  Nearly a month without classes, homework or exams is a welcome respite after a long, hard term. Whether you spend this at home with your family or frolicking on campus with friends, everyone will certainly enjoy the well-earned rest.

3. Sweater Weather

After a summer of crop tops and shorts, now’s the time to break out your favorite cozy sweater and winter scarves. While dressing for the heat can certainly be fun, winter it the season for bundling up and wearing fashionable, yet warm looks. You can finally wear your favorite winter boots and coats!

4. Messy Hair

While cold weather may seem great for bringing on the snow, it also brings along dry, frizzy hair for many of us. Even though this may not always seem like a positive, winter temperatures are the perfect excuse to rock a messy bun or hide your hair away under adorable winter hats and headbands.

5. Holidays

Along with winter also comes holidays. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid-al-Adha or anything else, everyone can feel the winter cheer. Besides these holidays themselves, winter is generally just a great time to get together with friends and family and celebrate life in general.

These are just five of the many things to look forward to this winter, but there are a million more reasons to love this particular season. What are some of your favorites? Let us know in the comments!
