When you have crazy colored hair you hear a lot of different things from the people around you. Some people won’t get it, some will question you, and some will absolutely love your new look. Here are a few of the things you may hear if you decide to take the plunge, along with photos of some celebrities who have gone through the same scrutiny as you.

1. Does this make you alternative now?

Maybe you consider your style as alternative, but maybe you don’t. Either way people shouldn’t assume just because you switch up your hair that your whole identity is different.

2. That will wash out in the shower, right?

Why would I want it to when it looks this good?

3. Won’t you miss your natural hair color?

Sometimes you might reminisce about your natural hair color, and you might even want to go back to it at some point, but right now you’re enjoying switching it up with a funky hair color. Besides, it always grows back!

4. Do you go to work looking like that?

Some jobs do have strict guidelines on hair, tattoos, and attire, but not all jobs are like that. Your friend may want to work in a creative field, they may be working at a part time job that doesn’t mind the color, or they may not even be currently working. The point is it’s really none of your business.

5. I could never do that, but you really pull it off.

Thank you, I guess?! This is one of the most heard backhanded compliments I have gotten about my own pink hair. Most people mean it in a nice way, but it often comes off as insincere.

6. You’re damaging your hair.

If you don’t properly take care of your hair you may damage it, but if you use the right hair care products and let your hair breathe in between colors you can still keep your hair fairly healthy. Buzzfeed even has an article with some tips to start you out.

7. Isn’t it so hard to match your outfits to your hair?

It can be different trying to match your hair color with outfits or your makeup, but it can also give you the excuse to buy new clothes or shop inside your closet to rethink your look.
