Things to Look Forward to in 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OR State chapter.

I’m not going to lie: 2016 was nobody’s year. Celebrities passed away, world tragedies happened, and politics in general, but surely great things are to come in 2017! Right? Now 2017 might be just as unexpected as 2016, but here’s a list of things that we can all look forward to in this new year!

1. Game of Thrones Season 7

Things were really amping up this last season, so I can’t imagine what is going to happen in season 7! The downside is that we’ll have to wait until the summer for the season premiere.

2. Super Bowl LI

This will be the last time we can watch football until the fall, but we get to be surrounded by friends, family, and most importantly, food.

3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Johnny Depp play Captain Jack Sparrow and we’re ready for more. Let’s hope this movie is a great one!

4. Apple iPhone 8/Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge

If you follow any tech news, both the iPhone8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge are coming out this year!

5. DamJam

Every spring OSUPC hosts an annual spring music festival. OSUPC has been sending out surveys to get ideas of what artists/genres people would like and what kind of experience they would like at the festival they would like this year, so I can only imagine it will be bigger and better than last year!

6. A NEW Gorillaz Album!

Remember the Gorillaz? You couldn’t have gone throughout the 2000’s without hearing Feel Good Inc, DARE, or Clint Eastwood. Rumor has it, they’re coming out with the fifth album this year after a 6 year hiatus.

7. Attack on Titan Season 2

You don’t have to like anime to enjoy watching Attack on Titan. This series is a gritty sci-fi based in a world where giants are attacking the human population. This show is full of action and suspense. It was finally announce that season 2 will be airing this April.

8. New Memes!

One thing that was great about 2016 was the amount of memes that came out from it. Bernie vs. Hillary, Harambe (R.I.P), Evil Kermit, Arthur’s Fist, Petty Joe Biden, and many more came from 2016. I can’t wait to see what I can use to relate my feelings to in 2017!

9. Star Wars: Episode VIII

Episode VII was great and Rogue One was great. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the Star Wars series.

10. Summer!

After a hard year of learning, studying, and freezing during Oregon’s multiple winter storms, the number one thing we can all look forward to is summer break! Even if you’re working or taking summer classes, warm temperature and sunshine is definitely something we can all look forward to.

11. Graduation

The arrival of summer means one thing, graduation! Whether it has taken you 3 years, 4 years, 5 years, or more, all of our hard work is finally paid off when we get to walk across that stage in Reser stadium and are handed the diploma we’ve all worked so hard to earn.

12. Beauty and the Beast

Disney has been doing a phenomenal job at recreating their films as live action, and the most anticipated one is Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson! She fits the role of Belle perfectly and her voice in the musical pieces is beautiful. We’re excited to have even more reason to love Emma.

13. Solar Eclipse

Oregon, specifically Corvallis, is very fortunate to view this year’s solar eclipse. Solar Eclipses do not happen very often and they are a beautiful sight to witness. Hotels all throughout Oregon are booked for the eclipse this August, and luckily Corvallis is in the prime viewing spot.

14. Fall Formal Recruitment + Gamma Phi Beta

One of the most anticipated and planned for events of fall term for the Greek community is fall formal recruitment for Panhellenic. Recruitment brings together the Panhellenic and OSU community together by showing women what their chapter means to them and why these women should join. Plus, Gamma Phi Beta is finally returning to OSU! This means that there will be 12 Panhellenic chapters and 1 associate chapter on campus.

15. A New Year

Out with 2016 and in with 2017! This year will only be as great as you make it, so take chances and learn something new.

Good luck in the new year, Beaver Nation!

Rebecca has a car named Sasquatch which she has appropriately decorated in many Sasquatch related stickers. You can find her browsing the newest dank memes, eating pizza, and crying about her love of cats.
Katherine Borchers is a Junior at Oregon State University and is majoring in Digital Communication Arts. She is involved on campus with Res Life and So Worth Loving at Oregon State. You can find her procrastinating real life responsibilities, drinking coffee, and procrastinating some more. When she procrastinates, she loves to sing loudly (not well, either), read books, and do artsy-fartsy stuff.
