The Frank Effect: My Journey with a Coffee Scrub

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OR State chapter.

In Oregon my skin suffers the most during the winter season because of harsh weather climates. No matter how much lotion I use, my elbows, hands and feet always seem to be dry. So, like any other person with this problem, I took to the Internet in search of some help, and I came across coffee scrubs. There were a few different brands I looked into and they all seemed to have similar ingredients and effects, but one in particular caught my eye from the beginning: Frank. This particular coffee scrub is made in Australia from natural ingredients such as sea salt, almond oil, brown sugar, and citrus. The website states that they only use natural ingredients “because we think you should only put on your body, what you would put in your body.” When it comes to beauty products, this is a great answer. Chemicals can ultimately dry out your skin, causing you to use more and more products – not only is it bad for your skin, but it is also a simple marketing scheme that forces you to keep buying various items.

What really intrigued me about this scrub was that it targets so many problem areas on skin such as stretch marks, cellulite, eczema, psoriasis, acne, scarring and dry skin. The coffee also helps blood circulation to help you feel good not only on the outside bu on the inside as well. Frank also had the most feedback from customers about the product. Everyone was raving about how smooth and hydrated their skin felt and how the long-term effects were worth the mess in the shower. I decided to buy my first packet immediately so I too could experience the amazing Frank.

There are four different scrubs to choose from on the website. There’s “Original” for any skin type; “Coconut,” which is nut-free for sensitive skin; “Cacao” for damaged and unloved skin; and “Peppermint” to rejuvenate sore and achy muscles. I started with the Original scrub, which is $14.95 with free shipping to the United States. It only took five days for it to be shipped straight to my door so I was able to start scrubbing in no time.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I opened up the package. I knew it would smell like coffee, but it was an overwhelming blend of citrus and chocolate that caught my nose’s attention. I decided that scrubbing three times a week would be good to start out with, especially since my skin had started to feel flaky and dry. Immediately after the first use my skin felt smooth to the touch and smelled amazing. It is a little oily, but it’s not uncomfortable like some lotions can be, so I didn’t wash it away with a body wash.

After using the original scrub for a couple weeks, Frank came out with a new product – and it has already been shipped to my shower! The Peppermint coffee scrub sounded amazing, and I absolutely had to get my hands on it. Instantly I smelt a strong and calming peppermint odor coming from the package. The first use was amazing and you could feel the tingling sensation on your skin. This time I did use a light body wash to get the excess oil off of my skin, and I didn’t scrub my face.

Now that I have my scrub routine down I feel a lot more comfortable with the product and I know what works for me. I must say the only thing that I dislike is the coffee mess. Coffee grounds spill out everywhere in the bathroom and they seem to never go away, so I need to figure out a way to keep the bathroom from not getting dirty. Overall I really like this coffee scrub and I am a believer in the power of natural ingredients. If you or someone you know might like to try this product, check out their website and see what Frank can do for you!
