It’s winding down to the last few weeks of the term. For us not on the semester system, we’re just three short weeks away from the taste of freedom and spending countless nights soaking in the sticky summer heat, accompanied by great friends and more importantly some great beer.

However, before we get to the point of complete carefree-ness, here are some tunes to enjoy while taking advantage of the rare days peppered in the term, where’s there’s sunshine and the opportunity to just drink the hours away.

Day-drinking is a classic pastime that’s better experienced with some essential indie tunes, so here are some of my favorites!

Enjoy!

1. Silver Lining by Rilo Kiley

Rilo Kiley perfectly embodies those beautiful sunny days living in the Pacific Northwest. <3

2. Pretty Pimpin’ by Kurt Vile

Indie-folk rocker, Kurt Vile has the perfect music to drink down that IPA with.

3.  Let Forever Be by The Chemical Brothers

For your more introspective day-drinking days.

4. Missed the Boat by Modest Mouse

Honestly, you could put any Modest Mouse song on this playlist and be right, but this one’s lyrics are the perfect words for when you’re finishing up another term of college. Trust me.

5. When Did Your Heart Go Missing? By Rooney

For when you’re day drinking and it’s suddenly 2006 again.

6. Naive by The Kooks

The Kooks: Indie best enjoyed with a PBR.

7. I Want You by Kings of Leon

“Get back on track/ pick me up some bottles of booze. . .” Shall I say more?

8. The Skin of my Yellow Country Teeth by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!

This entire band SCREAMS summer, sunshine, fun, and also that weird feeling of being in your early 20’s. It’s a thing.

9. Video Games by Lana Del Rey

“Open up a beer and take it over here/ playing video games. . .”  Lana is queen of carefree summer days spent drinking too much.

10. Southern Comfort by The Orwells

For when you convince your friends to get up off the lawn chair and throw a frisbee with you.

11. Bad Kids by Black Lips

Beer pong, anyone?

12. What’s it in for? By Avi Buffalo

So, I actually first heard this song at Sasquatch Music Festival back in  2010. It’s the perfect tune to just sit out on your lawn with a good book and drink sangria with.

13. Islands by The Xx

More of that introspective indie, someone pass me another beer.

14. 40 Day Dream by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Let me tell you, seeing this band live was a holy experience and their music is the perfect summer jams.

15. 5 Years Time by Noah and The Whale

Ahh, lastly this little tune. This song is for those days of day drinking when you look up from your beer, look around at all your friends,  look over to your crappy little apartment, think of the pile of homework you still have to get through–but ultimately remember: these are some of the best days of your life.

College, Man.

Drink responsibly, Beaver Nation!
