Campus Cutie: Madison Field

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OR State chapter.

Name: Madison Field

Hometown: Canby, OR

Year in School: Junior

Major: Apparel Design

This week’s Campus Cutie is one of the the Red Dress Fashion Show emcees and the Executive fashion events director of DAMchic magazine, Madison Field.

HC at Oregon State: What is the Red Dress Show all about? Did you participate in the show in the past?

Madison: This show is a collaborative event between Oregon State’s Student Health Services-Health Promotion and the student-run fashion magazine, DAMchic. This event is modeled after a number of Red Dress events in the United States and was started to increase awareness around HIV/AIDS. This year DAMchic will showcase around 20 red garments made by Oregon State University students.  I was an emcee of the show last year as well as the OSU Fashion Organization’s Backstage Manager.  As an apparel design major, I entered in a dress as well.

HC at Oregon State: What is your position and what tasks are you in charge of for the show?

Madison: This year I am DAMchic’s Executive Fashion Events Director and co-coordinator of this year’s show.  I am mainly responsible for the fashion show portion of the event as well as advertising and I help mediate between SHS and DAMchic.  I will also be emceeing the event along with Rae Madison, the director of Wellness Affairs on the ASOSU taskforce.

HC at Oregon State: How are you working to both provide an educational experience on health issues and a great fashion show?

Madison: In its 7th year, the Red Dress Fashion Show scope is now being broadened to include gender inclusivity and social justice, healthy sexual relationship promotion, on-campus resources promotion, and HIV/AIDS and STI prevention. The event features engaging presenters from Student Health with many innovative Red garments from students motivated by the importance of bringing awareness to these health issues.

HC at Oregon State: How can students get involved with the show this year and in the future?

Madison: The best way to get involved this year is simply to come to the show!  Next year there will be many changes to the event and many more ways that students, regardless of major, will be able to help out and volunteer!  Also, if you know how to sew, we would love to have you enter a garment for next year, so keep posted!

HC at Oregon State: What are you involved with on campus and in the community?

Madison: In June 2015, as a member of the Oregon State University Fashion Organization, I oversaw the transition of the merger between OSUFO with DAMchic Magazine. Now, as an active member of DAMchic and as the Executive Fashion Events Director, I am in charge of directing and coordinating our two student-led fashions shows, the Red Dress Fashion Show and the Recycled Fashion Show, which will be next term on March 3rd. I am also a Student Graphic Designer for the OSU Leadership Minor and I take on many freelance graphic design projects within the agriculture industry, focusing on branding and advertisement.  I am also an OSU College Young Life leader and I lead bible studies for freshman girls on Thursday mornings.

Be sure to check out the show November 19th from 7-10 pm in the MU Ballroom!
