This week we caught up with Cam Mullins, a sophomore studying Graphic Design. Check out her amazing artwork and read more about this Campus Celebrity below!
Â
HC at Oregon State: What made you become interested in graphic design?
Â
Cam: What got me interested in graphic design was the concept and final artwork for Harry Potter. The designs of all the different products, posters, magazines, newspapers, etc. inspired me, not understanding before how amazingly intricate and creative the pieces could be. From there I began looking at concept art for movies like Paranorman and Grand Budapest Hotel, and I only became more and more interested from there.Â
HC at Oregon State: How did you land the gig at Dixon Rec. center?
Cam: I achieved my current job at Dixon Rec. after the graphic design advisor forwarded various on-campus graphic design jobs for students. There was an intricate interview process, involving a personal one-on-one with my potential boss and a later one with the department, both times including my portfolio. Somehow I was lucky enough to be selected as one of the four student graphic designers for Dixon Recreational Center.
Â
HC at Oregon State: What’s your favorite part about it?
Â
Cam: My favorite part about working at Dixon would have to be actually doing work; in classes it’s very rigid, dull work. At Dixon we are placed in real situations with interesting projects, getting real life experience.Â
Â
Â
HC at Oregon State: What else are you involved in around campus?
Â
Cam: Elsewise on campus I am part of the student group AIGA, a Portland centered branch of the National Graphic Design Associated. Additionally, my most recent personal project includes designing the logo for recently released podcast Roll With It, a student-formed improv podcast featuring a various range of cast getting up to Dungeons and Dragons themed shenanigans.Â
Â
HC at Oregon State: What do you hope to pursue in the future?
Â
Cam: In the future I intend to apply for an internship at Beaverton-based animation company LAIKA. Ultimately I hope to work for movie companies and inspire people as I was inspired when I was a kid.
Â
Give it up for Cam, and stay tuned for next week’s Campus Celebrity!
