There are lots of new TV shows premiering this summer, offering just about anything you could want to see on your screen. There are spooky mysteries, comedies with a twist, science fiction thrillers, retro dramas, docuseries, and so much more!

1. Scream
Premiere Date: June 30th
Plot Summary: This show is a television adaptation of the slasher film series of the same name that took place in the ‘90’s and early 2000’s. It starts with a cyber-bullying incident and the first of many murders. The plot suggests the murderer could be a copycat killer or a villain returned from the past, but all we know so far is everyone in the town of Lakewood is a suspect.

2. Another Period
Premiere Date: June 23rd
Plot Summary: Another Period spoofs shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians or the Real Housewives by following the lives of the obscenely rich Bellacourt family, including their many servants and friends. It is a historical satire not only about aristocrats but about how we view celebrities. The one-liners and fashion alone make this show worth the watch.

3. Aquarius
Premiere Date: May 28th
Plot Summary: A cop goes undercover to track the Manson family and discover their whereabouts and what makes them tick. This dark 1960’s drama shows the changes in America spanning from the Free Love movement, protests, and drug usage to rising crime, police brutality, Black Power, and the Vietnam War. The spark that lights the fuse in this story is the disappearance of a 16 year old girl. Two cops of different generations and mindsets team up to find out what really happened to her and what her connection, whether victim or accomplice, is to the Manson family.

4. The Astronaut Wives Club
Premiere Date: June 18th
Plot Summary: Based on the book by the same name, this series chronicles the lives of the spouses of some of America’s first astronauts during the 1960’s. It details everything from their romantic lives, their social status, to their friendships. The women lean on each other for support and meet up weekly to discuss their husbands, lives, and the things that connect them to each other. Though the show may not be entirely realistic about the time period, the fashion and friendship these ladies share should be enough of a reason to tune in. You might even want to read the book to give yourself some more background or have a book club with your closest friends.

5. Humans
Premiere Date: June 28th
Plot Summary: This story is set in suburban London and looks at busy families who take on “Synths” or highly developed robotic servants, who look and act very similar to human beings. Though they are like humans, they may have different motives than we do and something sinister lurks beneath their stoic gazes. As advanced technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, this show challenges us to take a step back and consider how advanced is too advanced and what is truly important to us.

6. Sense8
Premiere Date: June 5th
Plot Summary: This show finds a group of people from across the globe suddenly linked mentally as sensates who can see powerful visions. This makes others around them suspicious or wanting of their powers. This show details the journey they take together to understand their powers and each other.

7. The Jim Gaffigan Show
Premiere Date: July 15th
Plot Summary: This show is a fictionalized version of Jim Gaffigan as a stand-up comedian raising five children in a two-bedroom New York City apartment. It is all about family life, being an adult, and what that all means in this changing generation. Anyone who needs a good laugh will definitely want to check out this show for some comedic relief this summer.

8. Becoming Us
Premiere Date: June 8th
Plot Summary: This unscripted reality television series is both a coming of age story about 17 year old Ben Lehwald and a story about his dad Charlie who is undergoing gender reassignment surgery to become Carly while divorcing his mom. The series also looks at Ben’s girlfriend, Danielle, who has a similar home life in that her dad is transitioning into a woman as well. This show is about redefining family, being a teenager, and adapting to change no matter what the circumstances if you really and truly love someone.

9. Odd Mom Out
Premiere Date: June 8th
Plot Summary: Based on the book Momzillas, Odd Mom Out follows one woman’s journey to understand the crazy world of extremely wealthy moms in the Upper East Side of New York. It’s a comedic take on a fictionalized account by a woman who feels she isn’t as hip, trendy, or competitive as the women around her. But, she is trying to understand them and maybe even fit in.

10. UnReal
Premiere Date: June 1st
Plot Summary: Inspired by the short film Sequin Raze, this TV show follows the producers of a dating competition series called Everlasting and how they will do whatever it takes in order to increase ratings. This show focuses on the producers’ manipulation of the contestants as well as what type of people elect to be on these shows. The show follows the relationships of the cast, the crew, and every intersection in between. This show is all about the drama so if you already watch a reality TV show or two… or three, then this could be the next logical step for you.
