How to Have the Best Autumn With Your Significant Other

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

Whether you’re a couple that likes to stay in or be out and about, these fun fall activities are sure to please the whole spectrum.

1. Go pumpkin picking. Not only is pumpkin picking the perfect opportunity to take adorable photos, but there’s also something special about picking out pumpkins in a middle-of-nowhere field. For bonus fun, do something with your pumpkins! Carve them, eat the seeds, and/or put a tea light in them to make them look super spooky. There’s some romantic bonding bound to happen when you both have pumpkin guts on your hands.

2. Go to haunted houses. Walking around a haunted house or riding in a haunted hayride is ideal for new couples or long-term lovers because it allows you to get physically closer to your S.O. when you’re spooked from the monsters! Fright Fest at a Six Flags Park is a great choice if you want the thrill of rides and the experience of being immersed in a spooky environment.

3. Binge watch scary movies.  My boyfriend and I have a long list of movies we want to watch together. If you’re like us, this is a great way to catch up on that growing list by watching classic horror flicks under a cozy blanket with some popcorn and cuddles. This is especially great for those extra cold days when you want to stay as warm and comfy as possible.

4. Go on a hike. This is a great way to take advantage of the moderate weather before it gets too cold. It’s a nice workout with a beautiful, scenic reward. Table Rock is a popular hike in the Oneonta region, but there’s a plethora of great trails in Otsego county that can be easily looked up on Google (or AllTrails, an amazing app). Make sure to ask a fellow hiker to take a photo of you and your S.O. so you can remember that euphoric moment when you reach the end! (Then cry when you remember you have to go back down.) For an extra romantic layer, pack a picnic to eat when you reach the end for a nice meal with a breathtaking view.

5. Bake seasonal goodies. I’m not talking about full blown apple pies (but if that’s your thing, go for it). The Pillsbury Ready-to-Bake Pumpkin Sugar Cookies are my personal favorite, because they’re festive, easy, and taste like Heaven. If you went pumpkin picking, roast your seeds! It’s as easy as cleaning them and sticking them in the oven (but please, be responsible and look up the correct way because I don’t want to be responsible for burning your house down). If you can follow a recipe together and not rip each other’s heads off, it’s probably true love.

6. Pick out a couple’s costume. Think of your favorite on-screen or book couples, and transform into them for a night. Look on Pinterest for inspiration, or tap into your own creative ideas and favorite couples. You can go on an adventure looking at Halloween costume stores, and on Halloween night you can dress up and stunt on everyone with your rockin’ looks.

7. Get coffee or hot chocolate. Go to your favorite local cafe and sip some warm coffee or hot chocolate while you guys talk about life and how much you love each other (wink wink). A hidden gem in Oneonta is Capresso Coffee Bar, which offers tons of comfy couch and chair space with so many different kinds of drinks. This is a relaxing way to escape the cold and get warmed up.

These are just a few things to (pumpkin) spice up your fall season with your special person, and make sure it’s a memorable one you’ll love to look back on together.
