A grandmother who’s confused and forgotten my name but never my mothers;

Uncertain about the past, present and future, she was lost.

Nights flooded with the tears of my mother, tore apart seeing her idol broken.

Lost herself after the passing of her husband, transcending into a downward spiral.

9:02 am I receive the call on my way to visit you;

Gone before I knew it.

A broken heart-

Never able to see your youngest granddaughter reach the age of 1.

Never able to attend my wedding.

Never able to tell you the words you long to hear.

From Church on Sundays when you visit, to vacations in Florida.

1,172 miles apart, but only a phone call away.

Selfish to never take the time to call you;

Will always regret it, but cherish the memories made.

Comforting your daughter while in pain as she lost her idols only months apart.

Feeling as you two were gone forever, you appear once more.

Two yellow birds together, Carol and Artie Mitchell.

Together in life, and in death.

Husband and wife,

Grandmother and Grandfather,

A mother and a father.

55 years together
