Things To Do When There’s Nothing To Do

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ole Miss chapter.

Quarantine life has become the new normal and I, like many others, are running out of things to occupy my time. With the school semester about to start this has given me the motivation to get back on track! Here are just a few things that you can do in your free time when you can’t think of anything else:

Make a Daily Schedule

I find it easier to get through the day if I have a plan. It makes me feel like I have accomplished something even if it’s as simple as doing laundry! Make a list of things you want to do for the day and check them off as you go.  Do you want to watch a movie that day? Add it to the list, or maybe you want to take a relaxing bubble bath? You can put that on there too! Anything can be on this list, so make it your own!

Try Something New

Having the same thing to eat all the time can get boring. I have used this time to try to cook new things. Do you have tons of recipes on Pinterest that look amazing but you’ve never had the chance to try it out? Well now is the best time to! Find the perfect recipe and just go for it, make it a whole day thing. I’ve been wanting to bake a cake for the longest time with all the extra decorations and now I finally have time to do it! Of course, trying something new doesn’t just have to be with food it can be whatever you want it to be. Have an interest in painting? Go for it! Want to learn a new language? The best time to do it is now!

Get Some Fresh Air

Now in a time where we can’t do normal things like go to our favorite coffee shop or go out on the weekends with friends, take this time to enjoy nature. Take time to sit outside and get some fresh air! I have recently started to take short walks in the morning, it’s the best way to start the day. If walking isn’t your thing, you can try eating a meal outside and take in the view of the sunset while you are at it. It’s not good to be cooped up inside all the time. Fresh air is good for the body and soul!

Enjoy The Little Things

We have truly taken the little things for granted. Through this hard time, I have learned to enjoy the little things. Before, I wasn’t able to spend a lot of time with my family because I was away at school. Now, having been back at home for the past few months I really see what I was missing out on. Of course, settling back down at home was hard at first because I was used to being on my own. But now I am glad I was able to spend time with everyone. I learned a lot about myself and my family during this time and being stuck in the house with everyone really let us get to know each other. Spend this time to get to know each other and yourself as a person. Enjoy the little things like funny stories your dad tells a million times or the new video game your little brother just bought. We never know what could happen next so take it all in right now, every day.

I hope these few things help you occupy your time during the quarantine. I know it helped me a ton!
