The New Freshman 15
By: Sarah Ashton Baker
We have all heard of the “Freshman 15” in college.
We have seen testimonies of it in our Seventeen magazines, listened to our older cousins complain about extra pounds, and headed our mother’s constant warnings.
The “Freshman 15″ is defined as “an amount (somewhat set at fifteen pounds) of weight often gained during a student’s first year at college.”
Obviously, the “Freshman 15” is very capable of occurring, so I decided early on that this would not happen to me. Therefore, I devoted a small chunk of my life to discovering secrets for living my Freshman year to the fullest.
To have the best college experience, I wanted to be in the best shape of my life. I wanted to redefine the “Freshman 15” to mean, “when a student goes off to college, they can get a healthy start and do not fall into the many traps lurking on a college campus, such as: Chick-Fil-A twice a day, all the amazing, sugar coated snacks in the C-Store, Papa Johns at 1AM on the weekends, etc., so they may even lose 5-15 pounds.”
Thus, I have made a blog full of tips and secrets to lose the extra college pounds safely and effectively!
