Kaz Zumbro

Her Campus: Tell us about yourself.
Kaz Zumbro: Well, my name is Kristin Zumbro, but I sometimes go by “Kaz.” I am a theatre major here at Ole Miss and a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Though I’m currently studying costume design, I would love to go into the illustration or animation fields one day.
Also, I am really hoping for an internship at Walt Disney Animation Studios, and to one day work there as a Conceptual Design artist. So that’s the reason I’m here because I really want to get my foot in the door to work for the Walt Disney Company in the future!
HC: Now, you’re involved in the Disney College Program, what is this program like, and what is your role in the program?
KZ: Well, one can apply for the program at any time by going to cp.disneycareers.org and clicking the “apply now” program. Ole Miss does not have a representative that I’m aware of, but you can call several other resources from this website to find out about how to earn credit while down here.
I’m actually taking three 4-hour classes while I’m down here through Disney University. These classes are taught by incredible professors that really do allow students to change their perspective and see their careers in a new light. So far, it’s been such a rewarding experience, and I’m looking at coming back to do even a second program.
Also, my role here is a Character Attendant, which means I look out for the world-famous character and make sure they’re safe and guests are able to meet them, and come away from their meeting with a magical memory.
HC: What have you gotten out of this program so far?
KZ: I have already made so many memories, and I know I’ll have these to look back on for the rest of my life.
Also, what means the most to me is seeing all the kids here at Magic Kingdom. As cast members, we really do create magic here every day. Also, this was my first time coming to Disney World when I started the Disney College Program, so I have my own very special, very personal experiences from my time in the parks. I’ve been wanting to come since I was a little girl, so the whole thing is almost surreal.
HC: Do you recommend this program to others?
KZ: Yes! I would recommend this to any student that wants a Fortune 100 company on their resume before they graduate! It’s an incredible opportunity, and I’m having the time of my life. If you are looking to work for Disney in the future, or want an impressive resume early out of school, you shouldn’t pass up The College Program.
HC: Lastly, is there any additional information on this Disney College Program that you would like to tell the readers? What have been your best moments at the program?
KZ: The only other aspect of the program I would note on is that Disney World expects world-class professionalism, even when attending class, business attire is required. So, this program really does help prepare you for the business world.
Also, my best moments with the college program so far have been seeing the kids from the Make-a-wish foundation. Seeing those brave little boys and girls has made such a difference in my life, and because of the College Program, I’ve been able to make a difference in theirs, and there’s nothing like it in the world.
