Is it fashionably acceptable to wear white after Labor Day?

A couple weeks ago, I put on my white Sam Edelman Hermes dupes that I absolutely love, and the first thing my mom said to me was, “Don’t you know it is after Labor Day?” Well MOM, get your fashion facts straight because that fashion rule is long gone.

For decades, the fashion rule stating you can not wear white after Labor Day has been a MUST rule to follow. However, recently a change of events has occurred, and all of a sudden it is trendy to wear white year round. Well, let’s ponder on how this oldest fashion rule became so serious, and why it is now socially acceptable to wear white after labor day.

So where did this fashion rule begin? Honestly, that is a good question. People always know and swear by not wearing white after Labor Day or before Easter and never understand why it is a rule. Well, way back when, before women were allowed to wear pants, it was looked upon that white was a sense of vacation attire and leisure. Everyone knew that white got dirty easily, so it automatically did not go well with the months in Autumn and Winter, where it was continually raining or snowing. Wearing white after Labor Day and before Easter was more of a class statement than a fashion statement. People wanted people to know they had money.

Fashion trends are constantly changing in the fashion world, so why let this simple rule created long before pretty white jeans and fabulous white shoes were made control our decision on what to wear before we walk out the door. So bring out your white jeans and hang them in your closet and keep them there because they want to stay and you should let them. They are too cute to only wear five months out of the year.
