Dates to Rock Your World (But Not Your Bank Account)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ole Miss chapter.

My favorite date idea is the 20 dollar date. This requires the person to spend 20 dollars or less. The essence of this is to make a super creative date that involves something the other person loves, but don’t forget to HAVE FUN.

Cook-Off

What is your significant other’s favorite dish? This date requires some grocery shopping and a good competitive edge. They like grilled cheese? Awesome, buy some cheese (not Kraft) and some bread and do a grilled cheese cook-off. Ramen? Great, get some ramen packs, veggies, and meat to see which ramen Naruto would rather eat. The main thing here is to cut loose and have fun.

‘Drive-in’ Movie

Find out your SO’s favorite movie, then raid Pinterest to get a cool way to make a projector, and get the pillows, blankets, and popcorn ready! This is a much cheaper way to do a movie date, plus you don’t have to worry about disturbing the theatre if you guys start laughing.

Picnic

Now, this one seems simple. The trick is to take her somewhere she’ll remember, not just some park. If she’s an alternative girl or ever read Vampire Kisses, then you might want to set up the picnic at dusk in a public cemetery. However, if she’s an outdoorsy person, go on a nature trail and set the picnic up there.

Style Challenge

Take a venture down to Goodwill to see who can make the best outfit for ten dollars each. This idea is fun and definitely different from the norm. Remember, best doesn’t mean good, you could look like a clown, as long as you’re both having fun and laughing.

Dance Lessons

Clear the living room and get ready to dance, or at least try to. Figure out some moves you two have always wanted to try and find some lessons on YouTube. This one will make for some laughs if you do it right.

Cemetery Date Night

For this one, you’ll have to do a little research, looking into the people that reside there. The idea for this one is to give a tour of the cemetery and the graves that seem most interesting.

Painting Showdown

You don’t have to be an artist to have fun with this one. Pick up some cheap canvases (canvas panels are even cheaper) and some acrylic or watercolor paint, then just let your imagination go wild. You could paint each other, or the first thing that comes to mind when you think of each other, you could even close your eyes and paint the canvas for five minutes and then go back in after the paint dries and make into something.

Flea Market Free-For-All

You each get ten dollars and now you have to go through a flea market to find items that bring back nostalgia or items that make you think of each other. At the end of the date, you exchange the items and now you’ll forever have something from them.

No Phone Pictures

Plan out an adventure and take pictures all the way, the catch is to use a disposable camera from Walmart or CVS like your parents did in the early 2000s. Be goofy, be yourself. The important thing here is to focus on each other and not worry about your phones. Bonus points if you pretend to be tourists in the town you live in!

Pirate for a Day

Who doesn’t love pirates? Time to dig up that hidden treasure! For this one you’ll make a treasure map and hide the treasure. You could print out a map of a local park, trace it to make it look more like a prop, and hide yer treasure. The treasure could be something simple like a gift card. The fun part of this date is the hunting! Brownie points if you dress and talk like a pirate the whole time!
