With the month of January coming to an end, we are officially one month into 2020. Now that

the holidays have passed and our regular lives have resumed, many of us have already

neglected our New Year’s resolutions. This year I decided that I am not waiting around to the

next year to start setting new goals and reaching them. For the year of 2020, I have set 11

meaningful goals for myself to help me be the best version of myself I can be. Even if these

goals get forgotten every once and awhile, I am focusing on not waiting until the New Year

resume my goals because I don’t need an excuse like a holiday to make changes in my life.

1. The first goal I have set for myself is to stop stressing about things that are out of

control. Stress is one of my biggest weaknesses when it comes to school or anything

that happens unexpectedly and I am eager to work on going with the flow and

worrying less.

2. Secondly, I want to pursue my hobbies that I have neglected. In my case, I am hoping

to rekindle my passion for photography, which I have neglected since I graduated

highschool and stopped taking photography courses.

3. Appreciate my education and see it as a blessing rather than a chore. Education is

something that I believe a lot of us take for granted and forget that many people can

not afford to have the same opportunities and we often complain about having to do

school work or wake up early to go to class. Instead of complaining about school I am

working to appreciate my education and view it in a better light.

4. In 2020, I hope to reach out to my friends from home more often. I go to school the

furthest than any of my friends and therefore only get to see them over major breaks.

In the past we tend to only exchange text messages for birthdays, but I am hoping to

reach out more spontaneously this year.

5. Don’t take things for granted. This is a very broad reminder that applies to a lot of

people. Whether it is people, life, food, education, friends, we all take things for

granted, and we need to learn to start appreciating the little things, like getting home

Safely.

6. Speak more positively of myself and focus more on my positive qualities than my

flaws, as well as have a more positive attitude.

7. Start cooking different kinds of foods and challenge myself to learn new cooking

techniques.

8. Listen to music more often. Music is one of my greatest loves but I have found that

while I am away at college I never listen to music, because the majority of the time I

am listening to music it is while driving. This is my reminder to myself to start

listening to music on my walks to class and keep discovering new artists and songs.

9. Spend less time sitting in my room. Especially now that football season is over it is so

easy for me to just lay in bed all day on the weekends, but my goal is to start doing

new things and exploring new places.

10. Develop a better sleep schedule. Like any college kid, it is hard to not be a night-owl,

but bad sleeping habits really take a toll on you and I want to focus on sleeping at a

more reasonable time and getting more sleep.

11. Post more freely on social media. This last one is one that I am extremely focused on

this year. Everytime I post on social media I worry about the filter and whether it will

match my feed, and if I look good enough in it, but in 2020 I want to “make instagram

casual again” and if I like a picture I will post it without worrying about what others

will think.
