Weird February Holidays and Different Ways To Celebrate Them

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

We all know the famous holidays in February (think, Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, Valentine’s Day and President’s Day), but did you know there are over 50 other obscure, funny and cool holidays to celebrate this month?? We listed a few of our favorites, and ways to celebrate them below!

National Chocolate Mint DayFebruary 19

Chocolate Mint Day celebrates anything and everything chocolate mint flavored. Drive over to Orange Leaf or Braums and get yourself some mint chocolate chip flavored ice cream!

Northern Hemisphere Hoodie-Hoo DayFebruary 20

This one is especially weird. You literally just go outside at noon, wave your hands in the air and shout “Hoodie-Hoo!!!” It’s supposed to help you chase away the winter blues. Hilarious, right? Imagine people doing this!!

Love Your Pet DayFebruary 20

Now this is a holiday I can get behind. Show your furry (or scaly, or finned, or hairy) friend some love! And it goes really great with…

Walking the Dog DayFebruary 22

You should be walking your dog everyday, for much needed exercise and to keep them happy, but if you don’t walk your dog on Walking the Dog Day, you’ll break their heart. Cause obviously dogs everywhere know about this holiday. Plus, getting outside to breathe the fresh air will brighten both of your days!

National Tortilla Chip DayFebruary 24

I don’t know about you but I could eat chips and salsa all. day. long. They didn’t use to be such a popular snack, but having their own holiday shows that they have grown in popularity immensely! Order Mexican food with lots of chips for lunch today, or just have some chips and salsa and guac for a midday snack!

Polar Bear DayFebruary 27

Who would ever think that we need a Polar Bear Day? But we should celebrate the world’s largest (and cutest) carnivore! Did you know: A polar bear can grow up to nine feet tall(when standing) and weigh 1400 pounds?? Unfortunately, the Tulsa Zoo and Oklahoma City Zoos don’t have any polar bears :( There are plenty of cute polar bear baby videos on the internet though!

And finally, my personal favorite….

Public Sleeping DayFebruary 28

Yes, it is as amazing as it sounds!! This day is specifically dedicated to sleeping in public! As college students, we have perfected the art of sleeping in sometimes uncomfortably public places. But you don’t have to feel bad about it on February 28th! Fall asleep in the union, or the library, or in class!! If your professor rudely awakens you for not listening, just say you’re celebrating the holiday.
