Out with the Old Nails and In With the New

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

Ladies, we’ve all been through the bright nail polish colors, the summer designs, and the neon toes, but the days are getting cooler and the nights are getting colder. That could only mean one thing… fall is right around the corner. With the change of the season, also brings a change in colors and trends. Fall brings some new
colors and new designs that will turn your boring hands and feet into the topic of conversation. And don’t think you have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to achieve this look. It’s easy to do and it is more unique when you add a piece of your own style to it. So what are some of the fall 2012 colors? And what designs will ensure that you fit right in with the season? You have the questions and I have the answers.

The perfect color depends on what fits you best, and if you don’t know what color that may be, you can start off simple and then work your way up.

For beginners, you could try anything from nude to a simple red. Sheer nude is great if you have a hard time deciding on a color, but if you want a little more color then try gray. Gray compliments anything and you won’t have to worry about it being too much, or too simple. Reds and pinks are a good beginning color for those who want a pop of color. But, instead of using a light red or pink, go a little bit darker. That will put you in the fall spirit. Now for those who want to try anything, here are some other fall colors that will definitely make a statement: deep blue, camo, wild green, blackish-red, dark gray-blue, fuchsia, cobalt, grayish-teal, copper, beige, flint, dark purple and gray-green just to name a few. These colors are the perfect finish to any outfit and you will always be guaranteed to look good from head to toe.

Now that we have the colors out of the way, what designs would go perfect with these colors? The designs can vary in many ways and it is really just a fun way to be creative. Some designs include: argyle print, polka dots, stripes, various shapes, cheetah print, paisley and many others.

Your nails can be a DIY project that you can do at any time of the day without the hassle of being in a crowded nail salon. Only you really know how you want your nails to look.

If you don’t know how to get the perfect look, there are many of nail tutorials on YouTube that will be a great help. But don’t try and make them look too perfect, sometimes the more egocentric, the better. Unique nails will set you apart from the rest of the crowd, and you will find that you get more questions and interest if you do it yourself.

I am a senior at Oklahoma State University. My major is Multimedia Journalism with a minor in leadership. I aspire to be a news anchor or work for a fashion magazine, I am honestly open to any kind of journalism though. I am the Her Campus correspondent for OSU. I interned for News on 6 in Tulsa, Okla this summer and I loved every second of it. Basically, I am just a fun-loving girl who loves her friends and family. The only expectations I have for the future is to be happy.
