You’re in a new place, with new surroundings, new people, and no parents; you’re in college! As a girl on her journey towards becoming a young lady you love the idea of a fresh start but you’re afraid of doing it on your own! Luckily for you, you don’t have to do it on your own; you have the guidance of myself and other ladies here to help you!
So now you want to know where to begin in your new journey and how to have a fresh start. I am going to give you a few pointers and advice on why these points will work for you!
The number one rule in starting fresh is “Stay True to Your Self!” Just because you are starting over does not mean become a completely different person. Hold on to your morals, values, and beliefs. Starting fresh means you are opening your mind to the growth of the person you already are, into the person you want to become.
The second most important piece in your fresh start will be the struggle to “Surround Your Self with the Right Influences!” Going away to college means you are no longer in your comfort zone, your parents are no longer here to protect you and the environment surrounding you is different. The people whom you surround yourself with will be the people whom influence your actions. You are who your friends are! You will see new things, experience new things, and new things will be available to you. Pick and choose the things that will benefit you!
The last move I’m going to advise you to make in your fresh start is “Get Involved!” Being involved in various organizations and going to events is key to being successful in your journey. These organizations are here to help you, educate you, and look good on your resume!! Getting involved is a great way to network and make great connections with other involved people. Being involved will help you in multiple aspects such as time management, organization, studying, and motivation to stay focused.
Staying true to you, surrounding yourself with the right influences, and getting involved are three ways to start fresh in your college journey towards becoming a young lady. Remember: You don’t have to become a completely new person; you are who your friends are; and organizations are beneficial! If you ever have questions, feel lost, or need guidance, go to the faculty and staff or upper classman here on campus for help. We’ve all been in your shoes before and have had to make the changes that you are ready to make. A fresh start can be scary but is definitely worth taking the time and effort to do! Good Luck!
