My 5 Best Dressed Picks from the 2016 Oscar’s Red Carpet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

Awards season is this fashion lover’s favorite time of the year (next to the entirety of fashion month, of course). Admittedly, I don’t pay attention to the actual awards ceremonies, or who wins what, I’ll hear about that on Twitter later, if there’s anything important. I prefer the Red Carpet sightings, and seeing what, and who, everyone is wearing for their Red Carpet photo-ops.

The 2016 Oscars were last night, and I have chosen my 5 favorite looks from that famed entrance to show you!

Lady Gaga

As everyone knows, Lady Gaga has had a killer year so far, on and off the red carpet, and she seems to be continuing the streak. Here, in a stunning Brandon Maxwell white dress, bleach blonde locks and barely there blond eyebrows, Lady Gaga slays. Keep doing what you’re doing, Lady Gaga!

Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams is consistently one of my favorite actresses and Red Carpet goers. While she tends to play it safe when it comes to dressing for awards shows, she always does it well. In this case, the trend is sideboob, and I give her look an A+. The high neck of this August Getty Atelier gown is absolutely perfect, as is the high slit and the extra long train. This dress shouts, “Hollywood Glamour in the 21st Century.”

Mindy Kaling

Oh hey, Mindy Kaling, you look like an absolute queen. Never change. I can’t recall any of Mindy Kaling’s previous Red Carpet looks, but this one will definitely stick in my mind. The cut of the neck line and the off the shoulder sleeves/cape/train combo is perfection, and paired with her updo, she looks like true royalty. This is how you do Red Carpet fashion, people. Take note.

Olivia Munn

If you have ever considered matching your lip color to your dress color, let Olivia Munn be your guide and GO FOR IT. What is so great about this matching combo is the unique color; the bright orange make it a risk but Olivia Munn conquers the look with perfect ease. With simple hair and simple jewelry, she gets a 10/10 in my book, and I will be looking for an orange dress and orange lipstick next time I go out shopping.

Saorise Ronan

Being one of the youngest attendees on the Red Carpet didn’t intimidate Saoirse Ronan. With a nod to her Irish heritage, her custom Calvin Klein Collection dress and shoes were the perfect shade of emerald. The dress accentuates just enough without aging Saoirse Ronan or making her look innappropriate. If I were to ever attend a Red Carpet event, this is the exact dress I would want to wear; she looks confident, stunning and competely comfortable in her skin.
