Blake Wieland, an agricultural business and pre-law senior,  has a lot to take on as this year’s homecoming director.

The homecoming director’s job is to collaborate and oversee all activities that take place the week of homecoming, which is themed “Branding a Brighter Orange” this year.

“I oversee the Homecoming Executive Team, who coordinates everything from the Residential Life Bash to Walkaround to Harvest Carnival and the Sea of Orange Parade,” Wieland said. “I have found the key to fulfilling my duties is organization and planning. If everything is planned and organized in a timely manner it makes the week of Homecoming go by so much smoother.”

While Wieland knows it’s a busy task to take on, he said he enjoys the fast pace and knows it will be a rewarding experience by the time homecoming week rolls around.

“Classes and extracurricular activities keep my schedule very full,” Wieland said. “The key to balancing class and extracurricular activities is different with every person. For me I have found that it is using my time wisely. There is time in the week to get everything accomplished, I just have to take advantage of any free time I may have and stay on top of my tasks.”

Wieland said he is excited for this year’s homecoming and anticipates this year to be the largest one yet with record breaking numbers.

“All of the hard work and time is more than worth it once the thousands of alumni return to celebrate ‘America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration’ with the OSU family,” Wieland said. “People can expect another great Homecoming this year with both new and old traditions and activities for all of our alumni, students and perspective students to enjoy.”
