I am constantly looking through my closet in complete distress when trying to find something to complement the new cool weather. As a college student, I hate the thought of buying an entire new wardrobe for fall. Here are four items I have found that can be tweaked to work for this season:

1.     That white sundress that will be sitting in your closet until next summer.
Who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day? Pair your dress with a camel-colored belt and a classic cardigan in a dark jewel color for an instant fall look.

2.     Your maxi dress. The flow and comfort of these dresses are perfect for summer months, but what do you do when the temperature goes below 60 degrees? Add a slouchy, knitted sweater! This look is not only comfortable but also easy to put together when you have 10 minutes to get to class. Afraid this might look too frumpy? Try adding a belt to accentuate your waistline.

3.     Any floral, silk, strapless or dressy summer top. This one is simple; grab a tailored or cropped black blazer to create a sophisticated and chic look that is ideal for going out.

4.     Jean button-up shirts. Forget those white jeans; pair your jean button-up shirts with black corduroy pants or black skinny leggings with that same camel-colored belt.  This is my favorite look. Not only is it simple, it can be dressed up and played down depending on what shoes and accessories you use.

Becca is an Oklahoma State University fashion journalism student. After she graduates in December, she wants to work for British Vogue. She believes that although a $1,200 sundress looks fantastic on the runway, there are less expensive alternatives to looking fabulous. Knowing how to shop on a budget is a vital skill for every college woman. She has recently completed a life-changing study abroad experience in London and a visual merchandising internship at White House Black Market in Dallas. Becca wants to show the fashion world that you can look beautiful without breaking the bank.
