Cowboy Football Spring Game Preview

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

The smell of hotdogs and nachos, the orange sea, the sound of pads hitting each other in full force, can you feel it, too? It’s about that time again, where we get a small glimpse into the next season and a tease of Cowboy football.

The spring game is set for 1:30 p.m. April 20 at Boone Pickens Stadium. The scrimmage this year will feature the cowboys going against each other in gray v. orange. This year’s game is free to the public and students.  Since the stadium never exceeds 10 to 15 thousand fans, they aren’t charging anymore.

I am sure  everyone is worried that we are going to be playing quarterback musical chairs again this season, but it looks like Clint Chelf is Gundy’s starter right now. Chelf made a huge difference toward the end of the season when he stepped up and earned his spot starting in the Heart of Dallas bowl. Not only has Chelf proven to be a leader on the field he also is off the field, he earned the award of being named the Student Athlete of the Year at OSU.

Despite all the terrifying rumors, head coach Mike Gundy will not be leaving Oklahoma State and seems quite hopeful after all the spring practices.

There are many returning players that we should keep an eye on. Cornerback Justin Gilbert, despite hitting some rough patches last year, looks like he will be a promising asset to the defense in his senior season. Josh Stewart returns and hopefully remains the No.1 punt returner. Some people are worried about special teams this year due to only one true punter on the roster, who lacks experience… and all I can say is only time will tell. I can definitely say I know I will miss Quinn Sharp.

Also on Saturday the annual “Remember the Ten Run” will kick off at 9 a.m. On January 27, 2001, 10 members of the Oklahoma State University family died in a plane crash in Colorado. On April 20, 2013, the Oklahoma State University family will come together to celebrate the lives of the 10 who perished with a memorial run. You can still register online for the 10 km, 5 km or 2km for $25.00.
