Due to the recent events across America, there has been a lot of conversation on police brutality, gun violence, and racism within our country.

However, nobody has considered the present state of our men in this country.

How do they feel? How does this affect them, but most of all, What are they doing to make change?

Today, hear the voices of the men of Oklahoma State, and how they have come together to make a difference on campus.

Gathered, within the Student Union are forty males whom have come together for one thing, to be apart of something bigger than themselves. Male Initiative is a new organization that they all have become a part of to promote scholarship and unity within the male community here at Oklahoma State. They share some laughs, and get to know each other, but then they get into the serious business, how do they feel about America right now?

Many claimed how it was messed up that many of the cops are receiving paid leave for their crimes, and others questioned why nobody is trying to help, therefore leaving males to survive on their own in our country. Vice President, Kevin Hayes stated, ” A terrorist is more valuable to America than the black man”. Powerful, yet true as more of our men of OSU began to state how they feel about being a man on our campus. ” We need to be visible more on campus, I am the only minority on the homecoming steering committee, there is no representation.” stated Terrance Williams, as many others within the room made such claims as, “ There are too many people that do not care”, and ” We understand that this is a PWI (Predominantly White Institution), but don’t forget that we still exist on this campus also.”

Oklahoma State, can you hear the voices of not only our black men on campus, but of all men here in Stillwater?

Have we become so numb to the circumstances that are in front of us, that we have left behind our brothers to fend for themselves in this world?

If you are a woman on campus, I ask that you support the males around you, and continue to uplift them throughout their college career, and if you are a male here on campus, I ask that you join Male Initiative and be a part of this amazing male community that they have formed her on campus.

I ask you, can you hear the males of Oklahoma State? Because they are here, and will not be silenced.

I think the biggest statement we can make as men, not as black men, as men, is to stick together and show how strong we are as a group.

Not splinter. Not walk. It’s easy to protest. The protest will be in our play.
