Build Your Makeup Brush Collection on a Budget!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

I have talked to many girls that say they love makeup but don’t have many makeup brushes. It can be really confusing trying to figure out on your own which brush to buy for what. For college kids it can be even harder to try to find good brushes that we can actually afford.  Drugstore makeup brands have seriously stepped up their game in terms of quality, so with a little help any makeup junkie can find brushes within their budget.  Here is a list of my favorite affordable brands with my favorite from each line!

1. E.L.F.

E.L.F. brushes are my overall favorite brand of affordable brushes. While the white handled brushes with brown bristles tend to feel a little cheap, the all black and clear handled brushes feel amazingly soft no matter which one you go with.  I have actually made a large online order of every brush I had been wanting to try and seriously loved every single one. On top of that, I was able to order a TON and not break the bank.

My Pick: E.L.F. Studio Crease Brush

2. Wet n Wild

Not only will the pink bristled Wet n Wild brushes look extremely cute on your vanity, but they feel so soft against your skin. The face brushes are so dense, that blending foundation or powdering your face is so effortless.  The eye brushes are awesome too as each one blends shadows flawlessly while being soft enough to make doing so comfortable.

My Pick: Wet n Wild Blush Brush

3. Real Techniques

Real Techniques was founded by beauty bloggers h and I who started out on YouTube. As women who started their business helping others learn how to do makeup, it’s safe to say they have their customers best interest in mind. While these brushes are one the pricier end of the drugstore spectrum, the quality is worth every penny.

My Pick: Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

4. EcoTools

On top of making budget friendly makeup brushes, EcoTools uses eco friendly materials and renewable recourses to make all of their products. So if you are trying to reduce your carbon footprint and support environmentally conscious brands these makeup brushes are for you!

My Pick: EcoTools Sheer Powder Brush

5. Morphe

While Morphe is not a brand available for purchase in store, it is an extremely affordable online brand very well known in the makeup community.  There is such a massive amount and variety of brushes, there is something out there for every need.  If you feel lost looking through their website, try looking up “Best Morphe Brushes” on YouTube and a ton of results will pop up with famous beauty gurus telling you their favorites.

My Pick: Morphe M59 Flat Contour Brush

6. Sonia Kashuk

Sonia Kashuk makes my favorite brush kits on the market. Each collection is so aesthetically pleasing it’s hard to believe that they’re available at the drugstore. If you’re looking for a kit to kickstart your brush collection I can not recommend a Sonia Kashuk brush kit enough!

My Pick: Sonia Kashuk Serpent Collection

I hope that you have found these recommendations helpful. For those of you out there who don’t believe quality products can be made at such an affordable price, I highly recommend you testing out any the brushes mentioned and then rethinking your stance. Building your brush collection without breaking the bank has never been so easy!
