Our hearts hurt as we mourn the loss of the young American rapper, Mac Miller who lost his life at the age of 26. Miller, whose real name was Mac McCormick, was found unresponsive in his home early Friday morning.

The rapper had been struggling with substance abuse throughout his career. After years of trying to stay sober, he eventually fell back into the dependency of hard drugs. According to tweets from ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande, the pair broke up after two years due to his substance abuse.

The rappers career started in early 2010, after signing with Rostrum Records, a label of Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa. Miller found a breakthrough in the hip-hop era with young and fun demographics. While initially known for his rap genre, Miller’s career was known by his refusal to fit in, transitioning his music from party rap to jazz-inflected songs.

With his last dropped album named Swimming, Miller left his mark on the world taking a more heartfelt and soulful turn with songs such as “Come Back to Earth”, “Hurt Feelings”, “Self Care” and many more. He’s come a long way since his Blue Side Park days, letting his peaceful orchestral vibes and beats do the talking on the new album. With his fight against his own thoughts unable to escape as referenced in his “Come Back to Earth” he decided to make his time here on Earth as comfortable as possible. So let us celebrate Miller for allowing those of us who felt and will continue to be touched by his music to continue swimming here on Earth as comfortable as possible.
