The 6 Has Been Good to Me

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

“I know when that hotline bling…”  is a line from Drake’s Billboard Top 100 song Hotline Bling that I’m sure everyone on this planet knows!

Hotline Bling crushed the charts, and became a popular hit when it first came out, but for Drake fans, like me, we have been steadily anticipating the release of his mixtape “Views from the 6”, which is one of the most anticipated mixtapes since late December. Four months into 2016, and great songs have transpired such as Royalty by Chris Brown to Slime Season 3 by Young Thug, but still no Drake!

Then suddenly 2016 got better, as Drake released four of his new songs (actually they were leaked..oops). These songs weren’t just any old songs, but songs from “Views from the 6.” I felt that my prayers had been answered; the 6 god himself had created blessings for us all.

In one of his new songs Drake showed his softer side with “These days,” a slower song that showcased his singing abilities. While “Controlla” and “One Dance” had a Caribbean/Jamaican vibe to them. It seems as if he is hinting at a new direction. Could this be a change Drake is willing to take?

No surprise that his songs feature some of the music industry’s most sought after artists; from Kanye West to Jay-Z, there is no doubt that this album has “star” quality music.  Jay-Z caught some negative attention for his minimum contribution to “Pop Style,” but when “One Dance” leaked on Twitter, soical media went crazy, not because of the quality of the song, but because of who was on it. The man behind this whole craze was Nigerian artist WizKid, whom has worked with Chris Brown, and countless other artists.

Overall,  I know “Views from the 6” is going to be a really good album that will live up to its much anticipated arrival. I mean it is Drake. Everything that he puts his spin on turns into pure GOLD! If it does not live up to my expectations, I will be slighty dissapointed, but you can most definitely catch me doing another review of the album here on Her Campus at Oklahoma State!

In the mean time check out all of Drake’s older albums such as Take Care, Nothing Was The Same, and If Your Reading This It’s Too Late to keep you busy while you await the arrival of Views From The 6.
