Coming into college as a freshman, I had no idea what tailgating was or what you did at a tailgate. Now that I am a junior, I feel as though I have a pretty good idea of what the five general rules are when it comes to tailgating any OSU football game.
1. Always Dress Up.
Whether it be a jersey or a dress, dressing up for games is a major key. People dress like their going to church (pearls optional). Always remember that you’re going to be in tons of pictures so you want to look your best! And it’s only good manners to dress nice for a OSU victory!
2. Tailgate Hard
When at a tailgate make sure to socialize with people, whether is be at your tailgate or at other tailgates. Always stay hydrated, either with water or, if you’re 21, an alcoholic beverage. Another part of tailgating is eating. Stuffing your face with a burger or hot dog doesn’t sound that great when it’s 100 degrees outside but when you’ve been tailgating for hours and go into the game only to realize you’re starving because you haven’t eaten for hours you’ll be sorry you turned down that burger. Have fun spending $7 on nachos at the concession stand.
3. Take Tons of Pictures
Game days are the one day a week that you and your friends dress up, so make sure to document it! Take pictures with everyone you know, because by that time the next day you’ll all be back in your big t-shirts and Nike shorts. But always keep your pictures PG because more than likely these pictures will end up on social media, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
4. Always be Prepared
If you’re anything like me, your phone is always in your hand. Since your always on your phone, documenting your day, you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared. I personally bring my phone charger with me so if the juice is low on my phone I can charge it. I also like to bring a few other necessities such as: Lipstick (for touch ups), a makeup compact, some feminine products, and of course, my cards and phone.
5. Don’t Forget The Orange
The last, but most important rule, is: always wear orange! There’s nothing better than repping your school colors on game day. Don’t be afraid to go all out and wear black and orange jewelry, bring pom poms, wear those cowboy boots, and always have your Pistols Firing! #GoPokes
Tailgate hard and tailgate often, y’all.
