Music is an emotional tool that can either make you feel better or worse. We listen to music that goes with our current moods. With the emotional situations college can bring us it’s important to not feel alone. So, here’s 13 songs that know exactly how you feel in any moment.

1.When you aren’t looking for a serious relationship. “Boytoy Baby” by Maria Mena. This song is all about the joys of being single. With the recurring line “you’re just a boytoy baby” you’ll stop feeling bad about stringing him along. After all, you should never feel obligated to make it more serious than you want.

2. When you get dumped by an older guy. “Dear John” by Taylor Swift. Let’s face it, a big part of college dating is possible age gaps. When you’re a lower classmen having a fling with a senior it can feel like you’ve got everything. Just remember, he was the jerk that messed with you. It’s okay to admit he’s not the guy you thought he was.

3. When you’re homesick. “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” by Carrie Underwood. We all know what it’s like to miss home. So while you know college is worth it, it’s also nice to know that everyone back home is thinking about you.

4. When long-distance isn’t working for you. “A Drop in the Ocean” by Ron Pope. Not everyone can do the long-distance relationship thing. It’s hard and doesn’t work for all of us. Fear not, this song is kind of depressing but it also puts your relationships in perspective.

5. When you need motivation to study. “Hall of Fame” by The Script ft. Will.i.am. Thinking about how awesome you are is guaranteed to get you off your butt and hitting the books. Just try not to get too distracted dancing along to the tune of the chorus telling you “the world’s gonna know your name”.

6. When you ace that test. “I Made it” by Kevin Rudolf. This may be a slightly older song, coming out back in 2010, but it’ll definitely make you feel like you’re riding on top of the world. It’s the perfect celebration song.

7. When you just don’t know anymore. “Young, Wild & Free” by Snoop Dogg & Wiz Kalifa ft. Bruno Mars. Now, while most of the activities mentioned in this song shouldn’t be on your to-do list, the song is catchy and helps release the pressure of college. Listen to this when you need to stop stressing about adult problems.

8. When you make a mistake and you realize too late. “Wake Me Up” by Avicii ft. Aloe Blacc. The line “wake me up when it’s all over, when I’m wiser and I’m older” basically describes exactly how college is going for you. If you’ve made a mistake, and it’s too late to change it, then it’s time to move on. Stop dwelling on it and just let it pass you by. Move on ahead to the good times.

9. When you basically become a stalker, in a class where you shouldn’t know his name. “Say Goodnight and Go” by Imogen Heap. With so many people in most of your classes, singling out one guy is pretty creepy. It’s also a perfectly normal girl thing to do, so embrace it. Just don’t actually do any of the things in this song. That will lead to bad, bad things. Like a restraining order. That’ll make planning your wedding really difficult.

10. When you finally end that on-off relationship. “Done” by The Band Perry. Every college girl has probably had one of these, if not, you’re extremely lucky. For those of you finally done with that roller coaster ride, you need a celebration song. This one does that, with the added benefit of putting you in a mindset that guarantees you don’t change your mind again.

11. When your professor/boss is being especially frustrating. “Roar” by Katy Perry. Not every class you’re in is going to have a super chill professor, same goes for work relationships. While it isn’t appropriate to get in their face and tell them how you feel, this song will at least make you feel like a champion.

12. When you pass that class you were worried about. “On Top of the World” by Imagine Dragons. Why were you even worried? You totally passed and can now relax. At least until next semester starts. Embrace your success with a little “‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ay I’m on top of the world, ‘ay”.

13. When people insult your generation. “Waiting on the World to Change” by John Mayer. It isn’t the millennials fault that things are as bad as they are. Still, everyone from your parents friends, instructors and random people at the store are ranting about the problems our generation has caused. Just let it slide right in one ear and out the other, instead listening to “It’s not that we don’t care, we just know that the fight ain’t fair, so we keep on waiting, waiting on the world to change”.
