When Your Mom is Cooler and Hotter Than You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

If my mother and I had been in high school at the same time and this was a stereotypical Disney movie, she would have been the super hot cheerleader with perfect hair and a constant hoard of boys vying for her attention. Meanwhile, I would be the nerdy band geek with braces and frizzy hair who gets hit with some kind of gross food within the first ten minutes. Now, I love my mom to death. I could not ask for a better person to drink Riesling with and talk to about boys, so having a mom who is cooler and hotter than you does have its share of positives to accompany the drawbacks.

1. I never have to buy new clothes because I can just raid her wardrobe. From cute dresses to the perfect date outfit to something for the interview I’m going to, she has it all. Her closet will always be better than mine.

2. She’s pretty up to date with the latest trends and offers great fashion advice.

3. She’s been asked on more dates in the past couple months than I have in my entire life.

4. Men who are closer to my age than hers ask her out when I am literally sitting right next to her. Hello, cute 28-year-old! Oh … You’re hitting on my mom instead. Oh, this is awkward.

5. She has more of a social life than I do. Usually she’s the one going out and I’m the one at home watching reality TV waiting for her to come home.

6. My friends love her. Actually, I’m pretty sure they probably like spending time with my mom more than hanging out with me.

7. I am totally comfortable sharing every aspect of my life with her. From boy horror stories to how hungover I feel after going out, she has heard it all and is completely cool with it.

8. We can never go anywhere without her running into someone who knows her.

9. I identify a lot with the song “Stacy’s Mom.”

10. I’ve been asked many times if we’re sisters, which is more of a compliment for me than it is for her.

11. She tries to use slang, which may or may not work out quite right.

12. My crazy college stories do not even compare to hers. Oh, when you were in college you decided to drunkenly go explore some underground tunnels with some hot guys you met that night? Well, I ate three peanut butter cookies last night in record time so #turnup.

13. I always have a gym buddy. I get my love of working out from my mom and plenty of motivation to keep up with fitness because I want to continue to fit into her clothes. (See number one.)

14. Her makeup is usually flawless (not that she needs it) and I kind of resemble a little kid who decided to experiment with her mother’s makeup.

15. She is my best friend and I could not imagine growing up without her by my side.
