There is no doubt that Athens is best known for its annual Halloween block party. People from all around come to Athens to join in the festivities. The population nearly doubles in size for this occasion. It is such a big party that people aren’t too sure what to expect. Here is a list for the first-time party-goers so that they know exactly what HallOUween will have in store for them.
1. A LOT of people You would never expect the amount of people that show up to Athens for this party. The population of Athens nearly doubles in just one day. Court Street is filled from front to back with many people looking to experience this awesome event.
2. Strange costumes This one is a bit obvious. You don’t fully understand how weird these costumes can get until you see them yourself. Trust me, you will see many one of a kind costumes on your visit.
3. No cell phone service With so many people in such a small area, it makes cell phone service slow or sometimes it just won’t work at all. But no worries, you’ll be able to post on Instagram later! Who knows, not being able to use your phone may make you enjoy the day even more. 4. Parties Everywhere If you are not a partier, I would stay away from Athens this weekend. Everywhere you look there will be different parties. Court Street will be the biggest and most crowded with a giant stage and awesome music being played! It is like a free concert!
5. A lot of cops Athens spends about $90,000 on security each year for the block party. This means there will be an enormous amount of police and other officials watching over the city of Athens. Don’t worry, they won’t be there to scare you, just to keep you safe. But try to be extra careful and cautious because after all, they are cops, and they still have to do their job. Be smart!
6. Cramped spaces You will bump into people and you will most likely be shoved. With so many people in such a small area, this is inevitable.
7. Strange behavior College kids and parties always bring about strange behavior but this occasion will be even stranger. You will see people doing weird and even very dangerous stunts. Just stay back and watch and let them do their thing. Last year there was a guy who climbed all the way up a light pole and started shaking it back and forth forcefully. Like I said, you can watch, but don’t engage. It will give you a good laugh. 8. Expect to have an amazing time Halloween in Athens is one of the best events you will be able to experience. It is all about having a good time and taking in the memories. No matter what, you will have the time of your life and will remember it forever! Happy Halloween!
