Music plays a big part in many peoples’ lives. It provides a creative outlet, a mood enhancing experience or something that you can just dance to. Taylor Buhring, a senior studying computer science and management information, systems, does all three.
As a DJ, Taylor plays the music we all love to dance to. Taylor has been DJ’ing for a few months. She DJ’s at Casa Nueva during Open Doors Night, an event put on by a campus LGBT group. Taylor got involved when Open Doors was on the hunt for someone to DJ their dance nights.
“They made an announcement that they were looking for someone to DJ,” she said. “I sent in an example playlist and hoped for the best.”
The crowd is a diverse mix of straight and LGBT students alike. Taylor plays a variety of songs, but her favorite is old school N*SYNC and pop.
“It’s always a crowd pleaser,” she said. “The tone of the night completely changes once this is played.”
Taylor also takes requests for songs from the audience, often hearing demands for divas like Lady Gaga and Nikki Minaj.
“I can’t tell you how many times I get people asking for them,” she said. “I’d love to play them every time someone asked, but I have to play different things.”
Taylor wants to move to the East coast after graduation. She hopes to find a job as a Database Designer.
