The Summer in Athens Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

For the first time in my life, I am spending my entire summer away from home. I am moving into my first apartment so I can work and intern in Athens. I have a long list of things I plan to do this summer, and if you are also staying in Athens, I suggest you follow this bucket list or make your own. You can even join me on my adventures!

1. Volunteer at/attend the Nelsonville Music Festival

I can’t wait to spend four entire days listening to great music in the sunshine (or the rain!). I also am excited to be part of the team that helps make this event possible.

2. Get a tan at Stroud’s

I have not been to Stroud’s Run yet, so I plan on laying out and soaking up some sunshine this summer. I think that a little yoga on the beach would be great too. Namaste.

3. Take a hike (or lots of hikes)

With all of the hills in the Athens, plus Hocking Hills and Old Man’s Cave, there are plenty of places to get out and get in touch with nature. Hiking is also a great workout.

4. Blog

I started a blog during my freshman year of college, but I only wrote two or three posts. I am about to enter my junior year and have not kept up with the project. Summer will provide free time for more personal writing as well as beautiful weather, perfect for taking pictures to post.

5. Read

I haven’t read a book for my own personal enjoyment since high school. I can’t wait to sit in the grass on College Green or inside one of my favorite coffee shops (where the AC is cranking) and read. I’m even more excited that Her Campus and Nicole Lapin provided me with Rich Bitch so I already have a great book to start off my summer of reading.

6. Try a new food/restaurant

Athens is filled with restaurants. While I love Chipotle, I plan on branching out and eating at some establishments that I have yet to visit. I also want to try a new food at some point this summer. I like to keep things interesting.

7. Throw a party

Bobcats know how to throw a great party. While I don’t plan on having a huge “rager,” it would be great to practice some event planning.

8. Relax

After two semesters filled with classes, it will be nice to have a little more free time during the summer. I want to take more naps and practice more yoga.
