Spicing up Sober Nights at OU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

It’s the weekend (or Wednesday or Thirsty Thursday or honestly any day of the week) and everyone, or so it seems, is roaming Athens looking for a pregame, party, and/or which bar has the best draft deals that night. Mill, Palmer, and Court Street fill with those looking for a much needed drink after a long day, and they’re sure to find one. But what if you’re not thirsty on Thursday, and not up for walking into random people’s houses for a Natty Light and an awkward conversation? What do you do then?

As much as we think it’s true, not everyone on our college campus drinks. In fact, 73% of Ohio University students have 0-2 drinks per week, according to www.ohio.edu/healthalerts/alcohol/. Ohio University has many ongoing activities that are put on weekly and even hourly to keep students off Court Street and potentially out of trouble. Being a sober Bobcat isn’t rare, and it is highly respected, no matter what anyone says. Check out some of these awesome activities to spice up your nights on campus!

Black Sheep Improv

This is my personal favorite because it is full of nonstop laughs and appropriate humor. Black Sheep Improv is made up of two troupes that give two separate shows after the audience yells out their theme for the evening. Be sure to check it out every Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Front Room and Thursday at 9 p.m. in the Baker Center Theater. Follow them on Twitter at @BlackSheepOU!

Open Stage

Open Stage is an amazing compilation of local and student singer/songwriters that can have your heart melting for the music and have your eyes glowing with joy. Open Stage is a peaceful way to drink your coffee and appreciate the hidden talents across our campus. Catch it in Front Room on Wednesdays from 8-9:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8-11 p.m.

Marti & Stewie

This is a favorite for the crafty type! Every Thursday at 9 p.m. in West 82 located at the bottom of Baker, Marti & Stewie provide free crafts and a great time to those who are artistic (and those who are not). Crafts range from Mod Podge letters to wooden change boxes and more! For more information and crafts of the week, follow them on Twitter at @martiANDstewie!

Flavor of the Week

The tastiest event of them all, University Program Council (UPC) provides free food in a specific flavor every week at 12 p.m. in the Bobcat Student Lounge located on the first floor of Baker. Get there quick, because some flavors flee fast! Follow UPC on Twitter @OHIOUPC and check out more of their amazing and free events on www.ohioupc.com.

Coffee and Comedy

Front Room steams up the night with a couple of cappuccinos and comedians every Tuesday from 8-9 p.m. Come out to relax with laughs and lattes in the middle of your hard week!

How-to Series

Keep an eye out for the How-to Series offered in Baker Center on Tuesdays from 7-8 p.m. in the Theater Lounge. The How-to Series ranges from dancing to juggling to string art! Amp up your talents by taking advantage of this unique program!

Have fun Bobcats!
