Sometimes a campus celeb can turn up in the most unusual places, whether it is on campus or in an entirely different country. Sophie Fredericksen can be found all the way in her home state of Georgia. Sophie attended Ohio University from 2009-2011 before deciding to transfer to University of Georgia, UGA for short, at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. Sophie has wasted no time after UGA. Currently she is working on launching a branch of Her Campus at her school. “I loved being apart of building Her Campus OU so much,” she says. “I wanted the chance to build something just as great at UGA.” Starting a Her Campus branch at her school has been a bit of a challenge. The school has stricter rules for what qualifies as a campus publication and regulations on how flyers are hung, something that is an integral part to promotion on any campus. Being new at the school presents a challenge too. Sophie is ready to take on the obstacles involved in creating a new magazine at a new school because she has been a leader since she was little. “I remember reading Vogue at a young age and thinking ‘One day I’m going to rule Vogue,’ “ she says. “I’ve always known (that being a leader) it’s what I’m meant to do.” As of now, Sophie has a staff of ten with more people approaching her each day. She wants to keep growing and eventually hopes to become an official campus organization. Although she is busy at a new school with a new publication, Sophie makes time for her fashion blog, Fashion Without Borders. With her passion for fashion Sophie created a WordPress blog that has become fairly popular. She frequently has guest posters from other fashion blogs and has even been interviewed herself. Sophie hopes to take her knowledge and experience with fashion to work for a magazine. “My dream job would probably be to be a writer for Elle or InStyle,” she says. “I would love it my blog became famous enough to be a career but that’s a bit of a stretch. For now, it’s just a fun hobby.” To read Sophie’s blog, go to www.thefashionwithoutborders.com. Her Campus OU will update readers when HC UGA has officially launched!
