Sons of Anarchy Reflections: Episode One One Six

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.
Coming into the One One Six episode, it was obvious the club was going to have to a lot to sort out, the most pressing being the fact that a gun affiliated with the reaper crew was used in a school shooting.

I figured Jax would immediately try to obliterate any traces leading back to the club, which leaves a viewer to wonder if it was his plan to kill Primo’s old lady, Darvany, before they even got her to the cabin.

As she has more time to process the fact that her son just died and that he shot up a school in the process, Darvany begins to appear less and less trustworthy. The stress of the situation coupled with the pressure she is receiving from the club weighs on her and forces her to relapse.

“There’s only one thing more dangerous than a rat, and that’s a junkie rat” – Jax

It was obvious she could not be trusted when she tried to run away. That was a stupid move on her part. She got herself killed and caused Primo to get shot in the head in the process. It was clearly hard for Nero to shoot Primo but if his allegiance was to his old lady over the club, he betrayed Nero and left him with no choice. If he didn’t do it, one of Jax’s guys surely would have.

I originally thought they were going to lace her dope with something to make her overdose, but instead Jax had Juice suffocate her. Juice is bound by an agreement to do anything and everything Jax tells him to, so when he is asked to kill Darvany, he has no choice but to comply. This showed his allegiance was with SAMCRO and is hopefully a step in the “right” direction for Juice to be fully trusted by the club.

It was so obvious that they purposefully killed her though. There is no way Nero bought Jax’s lie, not to mention Jax gave an implicit yes head nod while he was verbally saying they didn’t kill her. Nero has such a better set of codes he lives by than Jax does. He has a valid reason for defending Darvany’s life and the fact that Jax took it without even consulting Nero, disrespects him as a partner. Should he have blatantly lied to him?

“No matter what the risk, we don’t hurt people like that.” – Nero

Nero needs to get out of business with Jax. He still has a soul and a guiding conscious and Jax’s seems to be dwindling each season. I don’t think Jax is a good partner for Nero because at the end of the day he is only looking out for himself.

So Tara is released. Is she going to find out about Jax and Collette? Does she already know? I wonder what other paper work her lawyer has to take care of. I have a strong feeling it has to do with Wendy.

Jax and Tara did not seem to lovey dovey or happy to see each other at all. They almost act like they are in an agreement more than a relationship. There is clearly a strong disconnect between them, and it is exposed when she never says “I love you” back and when she is silently crying during their moment of ‘passion’ at the end of the episode, a moment neither of them seemed to really be enjoying.

I think it is interesting how Jax assures Tara he will get them out of guns. It is a day too late for that promise. He also says he can take care of them yet he cheats on her? That is not taking care of them.

When he goes to meet with the Irish, Jax is once again shut down by Galen and is forced to store another gun shipment in their warehouse. I think handling business with the Irish is one aspect Clay was better at.

Tara seems a bit different this season. You can tell Gemma senses it too. Is she trying to act like she likes Gemma but really has different motives? It is revealed later in the episode that she plans to file for divorce and strip Jax of custody of his sons. When her lawyer says Gemma will still be a problem because Grandmothers fighting for custody make a compelling case, Tara tells her it wont be a problem. What does she mean by this? Does she plan to do something to Gemma? Are you surprised she is going to divorce Jax? I am a little surprised because it seemed to me that she really loved him and had a million opportunities to get out before. What has changed now? Was getting thrown in jail her final straw?

I don’t blame her for divorcing him. She has told him numerous times that he needs to change things and do what is right for their family. At one point he was going to get out of the club and they were going to move to Oregon.  I think that was his final chance to hold onto Tara and ultimately his sons as well. When the Oregon plan fell through, all hope of them having a good life and a safe future for their sons was lost. It appears that Jax is on the path to becoming the man he tried for so long not to be.

I like how Toric brings in this whole do the right thing speech when you know he doesn’t care. He just wants to tank the club.

I’m surprised Gemma went and visited Clay, especially so fast. Is Gemma going to let Clay make her feel guilty? It is surprising that she can still get emotional. There is always that one person in everyone’s life that no matter how much you’ve moved on or justified things, they can still effect your feelings.

“Don’t let him do that.” – Gemma

By him telling her she did the right thing, it is like reverse psychology.  This is a clear example of how relatable this show is to the common person’s life. We aren’t all badass, gun slinging, porn shop running gang members but we can still relate to aspects of their life.
