When you think of Athens, Ohio, famous isn’t exactly the word that comes to mind. I moved to Ohio University into my residence hall that no one knew existed, knowing no one, and what are the odds that a boy who lives down the hall from me is a rapper who has worked with famous producers?
J-Maxamil is one of Ohio University’s own celebrities. J-Maximal, whose real name is Jeremy, is an eighteen year old from Cleveland Ohio. His interest in rapping came at the young age of eleven when he started listening to the R&B group, Bone Thugs and Harmony. His love for them started when he found out they were from his home town, Cleveland, and it gave him the inspiration of starting his own rapping career.
When he recorded one of his first ever raps, his video was discovered by famous producer Rami Beatz, who has produced for other famous rappers like Kid Cudi and Chip Tha Ripper. Rami saw his first video, and reached out to Jeremy, wanting to help him get a jump start on his music career. He started recording new hits and videos, and from there became J-Maxamil. The name “J-Maxamil,”came from a nickname of Maxamillion as a kid.
He went on to making his first mix tape, “They Don’t Understand,” at the age of sixteen.  It was hosted by DjEV, who has been the official DJ for many famous artists one being artist Mike Posner. But Jeremy has also gotten the opportunity to not only work with Rami Beatz, and DjEV, but other producers like Nate Fox, who has produced with Chance The Rapper. He even got the opportunity to work with Krayzie Bones, a member of his own inspiration, Bone Thugs and Harmony.
When I got the opportunity to interview Jeremy, I asked him where he gets his inspiration when writing his own music; his response was that it just comes naturally, and “life’s tribulations.” His brand new mix-tape, “Owls”, is expected to come out next spring, and he is also in the process of recording a new official music video. But if you’re interested in his most recent music video, Upon a Star, it is available to watch on YouTube. As I concluded the interview, I asked him what big things we can expect to see from J-Maxamil in the future. His response was that his dream was someday to work with Drake.
