The minimum age for a person to hold a seat in The House of Representatives is 25-years-old. This year’s midterms marks the first year in which a member of Gen Z, aged 25 is eligible for election.

For Maxwell Frost, challenge accepted.

The 25-year-old is the very first member of Gen Z to be elected into Congress. He won against Republican Calvin Wimbish to represent Florida’s 10th Congressional District.

So, what does this mean for Gen Z?

Frost first became involved in political activism at 15-years-old, finding passion in issues affecting young people. Later, he worked as an organizer for March for Our Lives, an anti-gun violence group. The group was formed as a result of the 2018 Parkland Shooting.

His campaign website highlights the issues he hopes to accomplish during his term. Here’s the solutions Frost will bring to the table as he represents young Americans.

  • Medicare for all
  • Ending gun violence
  • Pandemic Preparedness
  • Climate Justice
  • Reimagining the Justice system
  • Affordable housing and transportation

Maxwell Frost’s position as the first Gen Z member in Congress is monumental. For the past several years, it feels as though Gen Z members have been screaming at a wall. We have undoubtedly been silenced by the politicians meant to represent us. I have a feeling that will all change slowly, but surely. It starts with Maxwell Frost.
