The adored Ohio University weekend Homecoming is coming up faster than we think. However, being a freshman, I have never been to any part of this three-day-long event. As someone who is an Ohio University Homecoming virgin, I am very nervous. I am scared of the unknown aspects of this three-day celebration. Not knowing what to expect from this seemingly wild tradition is pretty intimidating. Should I get a homecoming shirt? Or will I look like a groupie? Do people really stay up all weekend? And how do I do that? How many alumni will be here? And how many of them will bring their kids? Is kegs and eggs a real occurrence? With all these questions in my head, one can only imagine how overwhelmed I am.

Honestly, I am thrilled that I will get to experience homecoming weekend after all I have heard about it. I cannot wait to really see what the OU community has to offer and how many alumni are proud of their bobcat roots. I can’t promise that I will be one of the brave Bobcats that stays up all weekend, or the student that goes to all the Homecoming events decked out in OU apparel; all I know is that I will be a curious and intrigued bystander.

I plan to watch the parade and make my roommate walk around with me to enjoy the atmosphere. I do not know why I wouldn’t enjoy the sight of alumni and current Bobcats coming together to share our pride in Athens. However, I am guessing that I will be caught off guard by the amount of kids and parents on campus, being that I am only used to seeing college students. I presume that I will also be embarrassed by that one group of college students that forces their grandmas to bong a beer or the 50-year-old alumni that are stumbling down Court Street. With this said, I plan to cheer on the grandmas and help the alumni walk down the street. I yearn to experience Homecoming and cannot wait to say to myself at the end of the weekend, “I survived.”
