It’s that time of year again.

No, I don’t mean time for cozy sweaters and campfires – I mean time for my boyfriend to never lose sight of the TV, time for non-athletes to pretend as if they care about sports, and time for every conversation to turn into “Do you know what the score is?”

If you can’t tell by now, I’m not a huge fan of college football – or football in general, really. I figured I’d give it another shot recently (because you know, peer pressure), so I attended the Ohio University vs. Texas State game; here’s how it went.

First off, let’s talk about the unnecessary amount of timeouts. Can someone please explain to me why the game needs to come to a screeching halt every ten seconds or less? Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration – every fifteen seconds. The minute anything exciting happens, the game must pause. Maybe I’m impatient, but I can’t help but lose focus through the hundreds of stop-and-goes.

Side note: I’ve been informed that the mass amounts of long, overdrawn timeouts are because the game was aired on television. I, personally, have no idea why anyone would want to watch football on TV; it sounds even worse than watching it firsthand.

I feel as though I wouldn’t be so annoyed with college football if I went to a school where students actually care about how well the team plays. Bobcats know that the main attraction is the Marching 110, who always puts on a phenomenal show during halftime. The student section was packed prior to halftime; it was difficult to find a decent seat. After the 110’s performance, the stands had almost entirely cleared out. It’s sad, but true.

I was one of the few holdouts who stayed to finish watching– this was a colossal mistake. Why did I decide to invest myself in a football game that went into triple overtime? A football game that went into triple overtime and ended in a loss — might I add – I don’t even care about football, and I was disappointed.

Don’t even get me started on the heat – standing on metal bleachers in 90°F weather isn’t necessarily my definition of a good time. Can OU invest in an indoor football stadium sometime in the near future? Preferably one where I can take a nap until halftime.

Since I’m sounding like an awfully negative person right about now, I must admit that I don’t mind the football pants – the tighter, the better. I speak for the uninterested women in the stands when I say, although they’re not baseball pants, they’re close enough.

I now feel like I have ranted a sufficient amount for today. Through this experience, I have learned to never attend an OU football game ever again and to watch the Marching 110’s performances on YouTube. Hopefully if I take my own advice, I won’t produce a piece of writing this tyrannical and unenthusiastic anytime again in the near future.
